    Default Best looking YJ ...

Finally a good solution to the questionably ugly YJ front end (even better than a CJ conversion!). Needs a roll bar but I like the old jeepster look a lot.

    Cool look.

Lowback seats, no roll bar - nice look.

Now to find a jeepster front end with hood... (there's a reason those 2x4 blocks for the front body mount are "temporary")

wow - curious. Thx for that. The price is nice. I just have to say no. It'd be a cool mod

`wonder how much modding there'd need to be? Bolt on? I see the hood going full width on the front fenders (no issue aside from moving the latches outboard).

No worries - I am always 'looking' at some 'unique' idea/projects. Here is my current one:
combine this cj8 frame and drivetrain: https://westslope.craigslist.org/pts...566434018.html
    with this body: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/p...566742455.html
and find some fenders/hood/grill (any later cj5-8 would work).

At the right prices...it could make a pretty cheap cj8

does the jeep in the OP have airbags? Lowback seats and airbags sounds like a broken back waiting to happen...

I don't believe YJs ever had airbags - wasn't a feature until the TJs came along in 96 I think.

Its the lack of a roll bar and the half doors with the low back seats that give it a bit of the longer jeepster/roadster look - but certainly would be a safety concern in many ways (says the guy driving and wheeling and old cj with low backs, lap belts and no doors etc). I think an early YJ roll bar (with the diagonal rear supports) could still work with the look.

I really like this front end mod - and I think the high output MPFI 4.0 YJ makes a great base to build a 4x4 (cheap, readily available, lots of aftermarket support). Looking and discussing closer with a couple friends how doable this is. A C101 (jeeptser) front grill and hood is completely swappable (just bolt on) with an early cj5 hood and grill. For cjs 1972 and after, as well as YJs - the grill is direct swap but the hood will be too short by 3" (the 3" extension behind the front fenders on the AMC and later jeeps). zoom in on the pic and it looks like you can see the seam at the back of the hood where I assume the back end of the YJ hood was cut and grafted onto the back of the jeepster hood. For a trail rig, a bit of metal work and some bondo and paint and it would probably be nice.

My BIL lives in Phoenix - so that is why I check those CL adds. Makes a good excuse to go visit my in-laws with my wife! Just to throw it out there - check with Ray Schlepy (or maybe his brother) in Ft Collins first and see what they might have sitting around. THey have lots of jeep stuff. Jeeps unlimited would probably have a YJ hood you could cannibalize so you wouldn't have to use your own (if that matters). Its just time and money right....I'd even come up to help you spend your time and money!
