Fourmile Sunday April 29

The seasonal gates in Fourmile were scheduled to open on the 15th, I'm going to call the ranger and verify that. If so, on either Friday the 27th or Sunday the 29th I'm thinking of going and making a big loop of 311 / 376 / 309. It's a great drive down from Denver on 285 and the trailhead is about 20 minutes from Fairplay. It's an easy area but a lot of fun with stunning views. Most of it is smooth compared to typical Colorado trails, but the final stretch of 376 before Chubb Park is a typical colorado trail with rocks and stuff, but still suitable for any vehicle. We've done all of this in our stock Xterra with no drama. There are old cabins on 311, sand areas, water crossings and lots of rollercoaster whoopdees. There's an old mine remnant on 376 too. The whole thing is full of photo ops.

Looks like we're doing this early AM on Friday, and adding a hike to the old logging camp in Davis Meadow, off 311D. Even if you can't go keep it on your radar, especially the hike for spring / fall.

I wish I did not already have plans for this weekend. I always have a good time with you out on the trail! I can't wait till most of the high mountain passes are open. I would like to go down that way and go over the passes out of St. Elmo. (Hancock, Tin-Cup) Jan and I went with a group that raced through all the trails. And I really want to explore them again. They did not even want to stop for this Majestic Guy! I stopped anyway but really couldn't get a good photo. He ended up bounding up the steep mountain. Which was pretty cool too watch through binoculars.

I've also been planning to run the Tincup / Cumberland / Hancock loop, probably in July or August, maybe we can make it a group run.

Possibly Williams Pass added in from Hancock? Only open in August I believe.

a couple of pics, the drive on 311 / 311D was beautiful and easy, and the hike to the old cabins was fantastic. Better in the Fall, IMO, the whole area is Aspens and Pines. The description of the hike on Coloradoguy.com is not the way to do it, again IMO; as an in/out to the cabins (just over 2 miles) it's all uphill going and downhill leaving, plus you don't have to hike back on 373/311 for 2 or so miles. There's not much to see past the cabins until the switchbacks at the end that overlook the valley.
