Default opinions on a 5th gen 4runner lift

    Folks,

We've been a Jeep family, but now that we've moved back to CO we have a '17 4Runner.
It is a "off road" version so it has a rear locker and crawl control.
I've already added sliders because the wife was reluctant to let me lift it... Now after a couple trails she agrees that some altitude and larger tires would help this truck.
That said - we are wanting a dual purpose vehicle... I want to get bigger tires under it without making it a pain for commuting.

I've been online and done some research, but - while I like the idea of the ToyTec Boss 3" lift and upper control arms - that seem like overkill for 90% of most trails.
I'm leaning towards the Eibach 2.5" leveling kit. Has anyone here used it?
My plan is 255/80r17 tires (~33" and about stock width to fit on the stock rims).
    Thanks!

Sounds like a plan. You can always change it down the road, but personally I'd keep as much OEM stuff as possible on the first build, just because you just paid so much for those parts and Toyota makes things so well.

Either way you go both would achieve the desired result of gaining clearance for those 33"s. You will have to do some trimming around the wheel wells and remove your mud flaps usually. The less lift you have the more trimming you will probably have to do. The upper control arms ( I run SPC upper arms ) let you roll in a little more + caster which helps with rubbing issues - especially if you run wheel spacers. I don't know if 5th gens have the same body mount rubbing issues as 4th gens, but its a pretty easy fix if it happens. While I have never run the Eibach kit I have heard decent things about them. They reuse the stock Toyota springs if I remember correctly, which is fine since Toyota makes really good stock parts. Toytec seems to be a little more popular if you have the money, but you might as well just buy Icon and never be disappointed or burdened with an ounce of regret ever again. Overkill is one of my favorite things.

You’ll want upper control arms to correct the caster.Lifting Tacos causes a decrease in caster which will make it handle like crap. There’s a few options out there but I’m kinda partial to the ones Terrafiedruns….

I went with the Eibach Pro Truck lift. 2.75" with springs and shocks up front, 1" springs and shocks out back. Super easy install, truck drives great and it really helped with the front end dive when braking. I drove 20ish miles on interstate and it handled nearly normally - a little more "twitchy" at 80mph than before. Taking it in for a alignment Friday, will see then how bad the caster is out of whack - if we can't get it good enough then I'll get some upper control arms this weekend.

The folks at ToyTec were great to work with, answered all of my questions, and even loaded the lift in my truck... lol

“Terrafied runs” (the guy who responded before me). For some reason this site crashes when I type directly into the reply box so I copy and paste from word and it randomly removes spaces.

It aligned fine and drives excellent. Braking dive is way less and it doesn't lean as quickly into turns. I am going with the stock tires for a while, but before summer I' ll move to bigger tires and deal with the plastic issues of the bumper and mudflaps.
