I'm about to replace all of my shocks in the morning and am getting my ducks in a row. I know the rear bolts can be a PITA if something goes wrong, although last time I replaced my shocks I didn't have a problem, but that was years ago. This guy came up with a fix...

"No knuckle buster, no cutting tool, no punch rear shock replacement for 03 Jeep TJ. Proven shock replacement alternative with one year of on and off road use without an issue with the mounting technique."

If I was to do that, I'd sleeve the frame. I had a similar shock set up on the Scout and the side the shock mounted to eventually elongated the hole with the constant leverage of the shock travel.

I don't think its a good idea. I'd install a bar pin eliminator kit instead.

so it turns out that because I have a 1" body lift I could see the top sides of the bar pin bolts on the rear shocks, so I sprayed them twice yesterday with PB Blaster and once this morning, each time I beat the crap out of the bolts from every side and angle available with an aluminum drift and a ballpeen hammer. They came out with just a ratchet and no drama. I'd guess from where they are a lot of people use an impact on them and break them with it, but IDK. PB Blaster is magic.

    That's good news - a relief.

And you'll use some anti-seize on the threads upon reinstall, no?

    (did you last time?)

I did use it this time, cannot remember last time but probably not, my Jeep only had 30k on it and I don't think I was concerned. I also clean up any fasteners I take out on a wire wheel, it just takes a minute and makes a big difference.
