I'm thinking of Jackie - camping up on the Peak to Peak - it'd be a fairly local trail from there.[/QUOTE

You have me confused Jim... What concern (good or bad) am I missing?

    good.

It seems like you're planning to spend some time up on the Peak to Peak for some trails here vs Moab, yes? If yes, then in addition to many of the trails you know in the area south of Estes, you might consider Storm Mountain. It was a trail I visited for the first time last season (after "not getting around to it" as it's somewhat out of the way) and I came away impressed and hold it in a desirable regard (though, yes, it's somewhat out of the way).

It's a fairly easy trail. It offers a couple/few vista points along the trail. The end offers a wonderful vista to the northeast through southwest. At the end is an completely optional more technical section for some fun. There are a couple spurs (Storm Drain - now shorter [blocked off] than it was) and an easy ridge run trail to the west - in the trees and not overly interesting - but there are some rock outcrops to climb around (I think it's more of an access trail for rock climbers / Brody probably was out there).

If you don't mind going a bit further north than Estes, Red Feather Lakes area has got TONS to explore, especially if Deadman Road is open by then, which it should be because there hasn't been much snow this season. I love Bald Mountain. Sevenmile has camping, although the trail is very mild, but you can get to plenty of other fun stuff relatively quick from there and there is fishing, etc. in the area.
Laramie River Road may open by then and has Green Mountain (deep, rutted and muddy!) and a few other cool places in there.

I am interested in this trip, as you are talking about my neck of the woods and I will be itching pretty bad to get out there since I will be freshly on my last summer vacation.

Thanks Jim! Sounds like a nice one to consider.
