"should I be prepared if it does explode so I can still get home?"
Yes - but that can mean different things to different people. At a minimum, it means wheeling more with your brain than your gas pedal to avoid breaking things. People have been wheeling many of these trails for generations, and some of the old stuff wasn't all that strong (just look at the stuff on my jeep). It can also mean having friends and vehicles along so that if something breaks you have help to get out (which is one of the reasons we are all here). I know some people carry lots of spare parts (e.g. David and his axle shafts), but I have a very weak front axle and don't carry parts. If it breaks...get it towed home and repair. Unfortunately, large full-size rigs are a bit more difficult to get out but I wouldn't carry a bunch of axle parts unless you know you are going hard-core rock crawling and will be using the gas pedal a lot. There is a balance with carrying recovery gear, tools and some basic repair, and bringing the entire garage of expensive stuff you are very likely to not need. I guess we all find the balance between what we carry, how maintained and prepared we keep our rigs, how hard we push our equipment and how we plan for a broken down rig.
"like eaton e-locker dieseldoc suggested or did you mean something completely different than that?"
I do like the eaton - its a full selectable locker. ARB and OX are also nice. Not sure who has what various vehicle applications.
