Default Thoughts on Hockey Puck Bump Stops

What are your guys thoughts on using hockey pucks for bump stops? Is this just something I should avoid? I've seen and heard of people doing this but not to sure how I feel about it.

If I end up doing this it will only be temporary.

Do you mean as body mounts? Not sure about bump stops - such as to limit up travel of the suspension?
As body mounts - that was truly the 'budget' version of body lifting a YJ an inch or so back when I was in college - good way to clear 31s on a stock YJ. Guessing with a Commanche - its unibody - so maybe you really mean as bump stops. In either case - I would be fine with it - at least in the short term and knowing you are on a tight budget.

Guess I'm not liking that idea for a bump stop. Never tried it but that seems like a pretty hard material to be banging into (rock hard when cold and not much softer when warm). Also, you'd have to be creative in mounting them so that the rubber gets hit rather than the mounting bolt(s). Urethane blocks are not that expensive, so that seems like a better way to go.

On my Jeep I still have the stock bump stops but I could just as well remove them as they never make contact any more. My tires and/or suspension limit up-travel. My rear tires are the only thing rub at full stuff... I just live with it (and I never Baja/jump it ).

Bump stops is what I'm referring too.

I put a pair on the front of my jk. Got em from play it again sports. I use them as extensions. Have stock bumpstops on the top and contact cemented the pucks on the axle side of the springs. Have worked well and the cost is right.I will try to get a pic. I the next day or so.

I've been running them for 6 years with no issues (3 on each side front). Cost me nothing from a buddy that plays hockey.

They work great! I need to add one more on each side because I went up a tire size, but like Tom said we have regular bump stops up above and they are hard rubber and will take the abuse.

I installed mine in 2006, glued them in with silicone caulk, lost only one. Best part is that you don't have to take anything apart to install pucks.

Mine are bolted in, but I might use glue to add the third puck in That would be easy!

Like others have said, they make great extensions but you need something softer like the stock bump stop to absorb impact.

This is a budget fix for many who don't want to spend $$$$$ and would rather do things on the cheap.
We are merely raising the deck of which the stock bump stop comes into contact with the coil spring mount which is steel, The hockey pucks are softer then the metal that the stock bump stop hits. You can probably by softer bump stops but when we usually wheel we aren't going very fast. Unless your are following Brandon Hee! Hee!

Gotcha - I was envisioning replacing the yellow piece in the picture above (which technically is the bump stop) with a hockey puck. As long as that stays in the mix, you should have plenty of cushion.

I also glued hockey pucks on as bump stop extensions, used RTV and it’s been a few months and a lot of trails and in deep snow with no issues. Took 5 minutes to install

I have the first two pucks bolted in, I went from 31"s to 33"s so while I was beefing up the control arm mounts I figured I would drill hole in the middle of the puck so I could remove them still and cleaned them up and glued the third one on top as others have done. Should have everything back together by Saturday.
No Tires on it but it lines up better when it is on the ground.
