The other trail we were doing that day was the Phantom creek trail, they ran it from the other they tied the two trails together by starting from the other end of Phantom creek, (which is very easy no real challenges).

I just remember passing through that area just before getting to the sign for Hacket gulch. (We were going there to run Metberry) Coming from the north east side there really isn't a lot of room. I feel the gulches would be great option for multible groups to run. And be able to keep it on the anniversary date? Maybe find the area on google maps to see if that is viable. I would be happy to run with the noobies. My rig is kind of limited anyways."

David - I think you hit upon a good point which is the gulches have better access for camping and trailers from the south end. I really do like the option of having 3 different trails to run! Plus, in March, while the gulches can have some traffic, I would think CW would be very busy on a weekend (especially near opening weekend in June).

Yeah, I was supprised to see several 20 ft. Camping trailers in that area. If we could secure a part of that area for the bbq afterwards (like have a few arrive to camp like savings the seats for a group?) Then split up in groups to hit the seperate trails (bascily just do one trail) and met back at the open area for the pot luck at such-n-such time? Maybe the next time someone does the gulches they can mosy on down ceder mnt. Road and give us all a better idea of wether they think that will work?

    I voted March - Other

Late March maybe we could get down to Medano Pass?

I remember last year when we went to CW on the opening weekend it was really busy.

Will be closed due to snow and deep creek crossing at Sand Dunes NP side. This year is a bit different as the snowpack is light, but many years I don't think Medano opens all the way until late June.

Ok wasn't sure because of light snow, figured I'd toss it out there.
Guess I could call them up in March to confirm.

Didn't vote... I'm unlikely to participate in March (anywhere north of New Mexico that is). June at CW (or whatever trail after say April/May ) would be okay with me.

Looks like no matter how the vote turns out...there is definitely interest in a china wall run in early june when it opens. Whether or not that becomes the anniversary run we should have a group run there for sure.

I intend to move the first adopt a trail to july..which will leave june open for a large group CW run.

the spot mentioned for us to use that is near hackett is the top of preditor.
yet just south of that is a larger area we could use.
there is now 4 trails down there.

TJ- knows the area better than me I bet he can make a suggestion.

You would be correct. I usually go there every winter for activities since it generally does not have the amount of snow the higher elevations get. Between ATV and 4x4 , pretty much know every square inch of that place.

Looks like China wall is the Majority vote so far however, if anyone needs any recommendations for Cedar mntn. road just let me know.

I think the concern is for a favorable route in for those with camper trailers and trailered rigs. The reason I thought the area south of preditor would work is because when I passed it there were several people with trailers camping there. I really like China Wall but waiting till June 15 makes a lot of Noobs to our group wait so much longer to get familiar with the majority of FR4x4, The anniversary run allows many who have little to no experience get their feet wet. The only thing about the gulches that concerns me is just how steep the trails are. Can be intimidating for some new to wheeling, but they really are easy and fun. Just a few tippy spots too.

As a March alternative, The Fourmile area has seasonal gates that close some, but not all of it. If you look at these maps the circles represent the gates, anything up to them is open year round including Shields Gulch, McKee Gulch and 376. These are easy, fun trails that have huge and beautiful campsites that can accommodate groups, nothing scary for trailers or newbies.

There are many large spots to camp with trailer/camper coming in from the Divide side on Cedar. 3 where closed that are close to the OHV parking area because they are someones property. There is however, a very large camp spot area just past that. As you decent the first hill it will be on your left at the bottom. There are many others all the down to Hackett that are pretty good.

As far as wheeling, of course there are the 3 gulches but there are SEVERAL other trails up there that are pretty mild but yet fun. The whole area is pretty huge with much to offer for offroading.

Four Mile including Chinamans and Carnage could be a possible option - lots of different easier routes and then a more challenging option for modified rigs and of course carnage for the buggies or whatever.

Agreed, The gulches offer a lot, but would require dividing up the large group. Which to me is not a problem. It is all about the celebration afterwards that sets this event apart from other runs.

I was thinking Four mile would work also, I am just not familiar with how accessible the harder trails are. But 4 mile defiantly would be a great place for a gathering of a large group with ampule areas to camp in.
