Default My son & my old Ranger

My son Brandon moved to Whale Pass, Alaska last fall, and has been loving it so far. Last night while driving down one of the dirt roads (lumber roads) in the Ranger, he caught a soft spot at the edge of the road on a curve with the rear tire. This caused the truck to slide off the road and down the embankment until the slider hit a tree stump which caused the truck to roll over. After one full roll it landed back on it's tires, the exocage held up great! Besides a few bumps and bruises Brandon is okay and only damage to the truck is a broken rear side window and mirror. Sure glad his dog wasn't with him as well.
He said it was about an hour walk in the dark back to the house and it is going to take an excavator to get the truck out and back up on the road. Whale Pass is a very small town on the island with 87 people with no tow truck.

Pfew - as I was reading I was fearing a death was coming up. Great news he wasn't hurt (at least severely). Bonus for the truck holding up.

So glad he's okay - what a scare that must've been. I hope he's able to get it out with minimal cost and additional damage. What's he out there for? If work, what kind of work? That must be amazing (except for the soft spots on logging roads).

I was worried this was going to be a sad read as well, I'm grateful to hear things turned out OK for your son!
A nice reminder for me to always have contingency survival gear for situations such as this.

Thank you all, the truck is fine except for the broken window and mirror. Heather, I helped him move up there to live. He went up to visit my daughter earlier last spring and fell in love with alaska so he quit his job sold most everything and moved. He does home building, mechanics, and some logging for work and for fun, hunting, crabbing and lots of fishing.

Thx for that. I did some google maps satellite views and it seems logging / timber harvesting is significant in the area / was going to ask what he was doing up there.

Glad to know he is OK. Hopefully the recovery will go smoothly and he'll have that rig on the road again.

Good job building that rig / cage, I remember how impressive it was, guess it works as good as it looks.
