    Default Hackett Gulch 1/20/18

    Thread starter...

Had a great day all...been wanting to take the old cj down Hackett for quite a few years. Went really well. Post up photos and links etc.
Scott (Tdash) in the full size had a great run...probably about as tough and unique a trail (ice driving) to cut one's teeth on with the group as possible. Hope you stick around and join some other runs that will provide a more rounded experience. Although Phillip may be moving on sometime soon, he has done great getting his full size around a lot trails.

    thanks - James

It was a great run! I was pushed a bit out of my comfort zone a few times (like the 4' ledge!!) but everything turned out fine. It was a day full of wheel stands, I saw at least 5 from others and I know I had a few tires in the air. We had a fun time getting Scott's truck out of the ice on the way back up, nothing a winch, two anchor vehicles, and 3 straps, and some people on the bed couldn't fix! This was definitely a memorable run! Thanks everyone!

Thx for the vids - enjoyed seeing the different wheelbases handle it. I should make a visit this summer (would be a first for those trails).

Scott-. Was a pleasure to have you out with us.
Nice to see you didn't give up.
Impresed you made the whole day!
You did very well for first run with this club.
And we took out to a harder trail.
That full-size will get you and the family out to some nice places.

James- good to see you and the CJ. Seems it's doing well.
Glad you got to enjoy the day. Don't blame anyone of ys for saying no to the bottom of preditor.
    It is a challenge.
Hope your ski trip goes well today. Safe travels.

Tyler- thank you for coming down from Brighten to run with us.
The drive down is a long one but as you see well worth it.
I hope you find the vibration and the odd noise you have.

Matt- This was a good day for sure. Hope your drive home was safe.
Glad you made the trip as well.
    Nice run up the ledge!

Dillon( sketchy)- good to see you and dog. Good to see the little Yota make the day.
We will have to take out camping and wheeling.

Dillon(dwine)- Again the little white Jeep the could.
Nice to see your pushing your comfort zone.
No poking or proding, just goes for it.
    Nice to see that.

We had a tag along from one of my friends. Seems he enjoyed the day.
Even with a string issue at the bottom.
His day seemed to go well and he seemed to enjoy as well.

Glad every had a successful day.
    We had no major incidents.
Had the winch out once for Scott just the right wheel base to have to big 37"tires down in the water on the ice. You did great with not pushing it and doing any damage.

    Now for the Carnage report!
One Disco stuck I the south Platte. Seems he soaked the ecm. No run after they got it it.
He was calf deep in water Inside the cab. The Range Rover that was attempting to pull the dick out.....well BANG is never a good sound.
Bust front axle or the out put on the T-case.
Dam told dude don't be going in there.....hope they got out ok.
When we left they we're just getting things ready to pull again after busting there biggest rig!

In all we had a good day. Every one kept up on the drive, I was not slow by any means today.

Good to see everyone, nice to meet you Scott.

Had a blast and well worth the drive to do this! Thanks everyone for coming out, made for a fun time with a little adventure mixed in

Fun trail with some rock climbing that's pretty easy but exciting at the same time! No one had any issues with the rocks. The frozen creek section wasn't bad but the holes in the ice did cause some trouble and James got the old CJ stuck but a quick tug pulled him free quickly. Then came the big rock step descent. Most of us did it cautiously but we all banged a skid plate or rear bumper except Riotcake, who gave a little gas and cleared the bumper! Going up only Brandon and I did this step - a little intimidating but fun!!!!

On the way out the big truck got stuck in the ice holes on the creek and we all helped until it got really stuck. Then I pulled into position and everyone helped with tow straps and pulling the winch cable and we pulled him out!!

Took some videos, forgot to take some when we were winching the big truck out of the ice..... but a great time indeed. Now I really wanna go back and do Predator!!!!!

Tj- all by 2 did the ledge.
Dwine(Dillon) is a stock Willie's on the factory 255's so he is not commfy with the ladge yet.

And Scott in the full size.
There is just not enough room for that thing to make the turn.

We have to go back so we can do preditor from Hackett.
Matt is ready to try it.

That ledge was fun... I felt more comfortable going up it than down but both were awesome! Going up was just harder, thanks for the guidance Brandon! I Don't think I would have kept trying after the first couple attempts if you weren't there.

Matt- your welcome sir. It's what it's about. Being the more experienced drivers it's on me to guide the rest of the crew.
You did well on the ledge.
It's all about line....even the long wheel base I have if you hit it wrong it will deny you.
    Glade you enjoyed the day.

Goslow- we missed you and you +1, all good sir we will have many more to come.
Matt want to run up preditor now that he say it. Maybe we can get JP in his toned on 40's the and TJ in one of the buggies to come out and play, with the little trucks.

Looks like it was a nice run. Probably some karma for the disco’s, river is off limits isn’t it?

They we're not in the crossing that are closed.
    Hackett has total of 3.
The 2 that get you to the ridge directly across are open as for as we can tell. No signs here.
The 3 crossing to the west side on the longwater loop is where things are closed.
    There not marked well eather.
Seems the FS/BLM are using this to generate fund's. As it's been reported they were there handing out tickets.
A small flexy green plastic thing with no marikings on it is not closing the said crossing!

Where they were is for the parking spot across the river from the bottom of Hackett/Preditor.
They had one jeeper with them he was very upset.....we (me) told them it was bad Idea.
We watched a heavier modified TJ get stuck last weekend....so here we go dajavu!
    Thus we split.
The long we stay the more a few of us felt obligated to help. So time to go.
