Hello,
I noticed a small slice in the sidewall of my tire and I'm wondering about replacing 1 in a set of 4. If i never took this rig off road, I wouldn't think twice about running the rest of the tread off this tire. Its not "bad" but I don't want to invite any issues in the wilderness.
The 4runner came with LT265/70/17 Cooper Discoverer ATP's. When new there should be 16.5/32nds of tread on them (13mm). I measured 10mm of tread depth on all 4 with a digital caliper. If I replace 1 tire is this size difference going to cause my traction control and other traction electronics to act a fool? Its currently positioned as the right rear tire.
On a Volvo AWD system (S60R) they recommended no more than 3/32nds(2.5mm) difference.
FYI burning off the rears in a cloud of smoke and replacing 2 tires didn't fly with the wife.
Seems like my options are:
Replace the 1 tire if the traction systems will allow it
Roll the dice on a tire with a small slice till it wears out.
Thanks for the input,
Rob
