    Default Newbie from Erie

    Hi everyone.

Been watching lots of Youtube videos over the last year or so on overlanding rigs and finally pulled the trigger on a 2018 4Runner TRD. Friend at work (open_circuit) told me about this place and ended up going to the four mile meet up ride last weekend and had a blast. First time offroad and was able to get familiar with everything. Looking to do more exploring/photography/overnight camping next season, add some basic mods (32" BFGs, lift, bumpers, rack, rooftop tent, etc), and do some more challenging trails.

Wouldn't be surprised if I end up with a TJ/XJ in the near future as well.

Welcome! That's funny that you say you wouldn't be surprised if you end up with a TJ/XJ in the near future..... I started on here early this year after buying a 2017 Ram Rebel and I ended up getting a TJ Rubicon last month

Hi Ryan, It was a blast meeting you and your dad Sat. you did real good for your first time out. It was a great trail to cut your teeth on, The one section was perfect to help get the idea of tire placement over rocks and keep your undercarriage from damage. I look forward to more adventures with you! Later David

Welcome! Glad you decided to join! I like your idea, we have an Xterra and a Jeep, its a great combo. Jeep for trails, Xterra for overlanding and towing. Jeeps are so easy and cheap to build, and if we break something its not as big a deal as if my trail rig was my DD, she has the Xterra and I have my car.

Actually I would stay with your 4-runner get the small lift and those tires and stay on the trails that are a 1-4 out of a ten scale. Just approach things the way you did and if it seems over your head don't do it and You will be fine for several years. Then if you are really wanting to do more I would consider something else or if you can afford to build that 4-runner it is very worthy.

I feel comfortable on trails rated 1-5 with my RAM. On trails rated 6 I have done some body damage already ;(

That's why I bought the TJ, so I didn't keep busting up my shiny new RAM.

Thanks Dave. Ya, like we talked about before, I think that's the route I'm going with. Will definitely take me a while to figure out exactly what I want/need. Thanks again for the advice and the spotting!
