I like the idea. There'd be much less risk of oil, fluid, coolant problems with a vehicle like that and you'd definitely have the juice to run a fridge. They should just design it with that entire roof and hood being solar panels.

Looks like an old Land Rover! I wondered when something like that would show up. Ground clearance would be awesome with no axles, and automated control of torque to each wheel would be wonderful. I assume the batteries are in the bottom of the vehicle, hopefully with very good armor to prevent damage to the Lithium batteries.

I think the limited range is a big issue though, and worse off road, so after driving to the trailhead it may not have enough. And no practical way to recharge it on the trail - you can't just put a few gallons of gas in, unless they make a hybrid version.

Still waiting for really good battery and very rapid charging technology. I think gas and diesel are going to be with us a long time.

Actually, gas and oil are on the way out, and China is leading the way.

Volvo is not making any more gasoline cars after 2019. http://money.cnn.com/2017/07/05/auto...ine/index.html

China is set to ban gasoline cars, as is California. http://fortune.com/2017/10/10/gm-electric-cars-china/

The cool thing is that it really won't use much power while crawling on the trail. No idling, and I assume there is regenerative technology so going down hill will help recharge the pack. Real world testing should be interesting.
