Default Is this a decent deal 2001 Jeep Wrangler?

This is parked near my sons school, looks decent and options listed seem good also.... price seems a little high but maybe not....

I really want lockers in a Jeep so I'm guessing this doesn't have them but could be added to the Dana 44's.

    thoughts?

Price seems alright assuming it is in good condition.

Not sure I'd buy a rig from someone who thinks a winch is a wench. Unless of course it actually comes with a wench in which case we'll need pictures and a complete list of her skills to properly judge the price.

Having been in the market recently myself I'd say that's about right for that rig.

I'd consider it assuming the body and interior are in good condition. Make sure it really has D44 front and rear if you really plan to run 35s with lockers. Not sure you could actually run 35s with only 2.5 inch suspension and 1 inch body - maybe possible but thinking that would be better fit for 33s.

Price is pretty good. I would find out what the front axle is out of because you could not get a front D44 in a TJ.

The D44 front is aftermarket, make sure it was done right. Actually make sure it's actually a D44 first. Not sure what the bushwhacker flat fenders gain you for clearance but I run 35's with about 3.5" of lift and 4.56s , extended bump stops and some rubbing but she does fine.

Thanks y'all. I'll inquire about the front D44.... if I crawl under it is there an identifying stamp somewhere that would clarify? I'm a little concerned with the statement "everything SEEMS to run great". SEEMS to?

Grab phone and take lots-o-pix (subtle angle change when under the vehicle - one angle of pic night not answer a question but another might show a questionable area with clarity) of drivetrain, suspension, brakes, body. Post'm here for comment. In particular if the front axle has been replaced.

I'd Carfax the VIN to check history (# of owners, state of original delivery, etc.). Agreed with others that say to check the work on the D44. No locker(s) is maybe a little weird - why would you upgrade the axle and not put a locker in? Worst case - if it was wrecked/bent and necessary, maybe? Can you take someone that's owned/wheeled TJs (assuming you haven't??) with you for a test drive, to see if anything seems weird to them? Super cool that you're considering it!!

I'm not sure if it has lockers or not, is not specified on the sheet in the window

I can call the owner and inquire, but if it's still parked there today I'll snap some pics. It's always there in the morning but not always in the afternoon.

I thought TJ Rubicons had D44s? Or at least the Rubicon D44s which were essentially junk.

Rubicon's weren't offered until 03. I wouldn't call em junk but they aren't a "real" 44. Same outters as a 30 (irrelevant because they aren't the weak point) and a marginal housing which can be trussed. With some effort they can be good axles.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'd think though he could have swapped Rubicon D44s under it since its bolt in.

Sorry for the thread high jack.

I'd inspect it very carefully. In Colorado a low mileage Jeep often means it was a dedicated trail rig, especially if it has the modifications. My own Jeep is an 06 with 67k on it, it's garage kept, adult owned, sounds great but it only does trails and roads getting to and from trails, so it's 67k of bad mileage, I've destroyed 3 rear diffs, a clutch, front axle shaft, driveshaft, a shock, tierod, and I dont remember what else. Given that it's a student's rig, and has so many mods I'd be leary.
