    Default modified sliders

I am looking for someone who can help me design and assemble sliders for my F-150
They seem to not manufacture any for the 2004 XLT anymore.
Also wondering if using the nerf bar is gonna be non flex and able to pound off a rock or two
I know I need bracing from frame to bar but I don't weld so I will need a reasonable rate welder too....
Yikes I know, but wait till you see all that I have been able to do !!!!!! It's gonna be SWEET !!!!!!!!!!!!

A well designed slider/nerf should take a decent hit without bending. I'm working on some for my Ram but due to the weight of the truck and the distance from the frame to the outside of the body I'm not planning on dropping it on any rocks, I suspect the frame will twist before I dent the sliders. They are more of a step/small car deflector.

If if you were closer I would help fab em for you.

Hey GPP33, I found some sliders by N-Fab that are made for Ram 1500's that I'm eying since I don't wanna do anymore rocker damage ;-/

Less than $500 too, I'm getting close to pulling the trigger

Check out this old thread: http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/...eep-Rock-Rails

You might get some ideas on something that would work for you. Pete did a great job on mine, but what isn't mentioned in that thread is the fact that I had to take it back to him and have him fab up some braces that bolted to the frame to give it better support. They have worked like a charm for me. I didn't want any drilling or other modifications to the body because it would have voided my warranty. The original rock rails are not considered part of the body so they didn't matter. I still don't do extreme trails, but they have taken a pretty good beating!

    Good luck

.095" wall isn't going to do much to deflect rocks on a truck that size. I'd go with something a little heavier duty. .120" wall is the least I'd put under a Jeep/yota. If you're not planning on really slamming them .188" would work under a F-150, if abuse is in their future than .25" wall wouldn't be overkill in key areas.

Jackie, the only warranty they could legally void is one that they can prove is a result of the modification. In this case that would be rust in the rocker panel area. They like to tell you that any modification will void all warranties but the reality is that this has gone to court and if the claim is not a result of the modification then they have to cover it.

I'm looking at LUND 3" nerf bars to modify some sort of braces from frame to bar. I don't suspect I'd be smashing them up much but everyone knows...."ya never know"
I might even be willing to travel to you. The people I have here are not familiar with sliders. The bad news is I am on a fixed income (disability) and not sure how much I can afford, this is why I am looking to nerf bars, they seem to be cheeper than buying tube steel. Let me know what you think

back to the old drawing board.... found some that are .188 but they are ugly and about $1K.

Not many options for Rams but then again most Rams aren't seeing much real off roading like mine does. I'll probably stay on trails rates 5 or less and be happy until I get a real Jeep

Aaron up in foco has the skills.

I do as well but time at this point is not there....thus part of why my TJ want to the dealership and I got a new one.
To bad the dealership can do crap right.....still turning wrenches on a brand new rig!

A good set of sliders should handle the weight if done right.
.188 is a good start but with heavy full sizes I would be looking into .240
Have seen full sizes dent .380!

Hey Matt, I'm gonna grab some steel I beams, if they are a little tucked under the body they could be hidden and or painted. This guy in Commerce City has some that were sand blasted and finished. They are 8' to 8' and a half. The unfinished ones are 20$, the finished ones are 30$ each. I am confident they will work and not look bad.
They are 4" tall by 2 1/4" and thickness I am not sure of but I will know more about them tomorrow .

Thank you Jackie, those look real good like the way I want mine to look but, the frame is so much farther away from the corner of the body the supports need to be really beefy !! But those pics are helpful, I will need to talk to Pete maybe he will be able to help me figure out how to build the supports.

Hmm....I like you tough about cupping the rocker.
Only issue with that is if you land hard on it it will push up into the rocker and do damage.
Thus why most are done with round or rectangular tube.
The Cherokee guys cut the rockers out and weld the slider into it's place. Then brace back to the unibody channel. This stiffness the truck as well.
But for you the body sits on a real frame.
Any way you can triangulate the braces to the frame from the slider will make them far stronger.

    Sight unseen is tough.
I like the 2x4x.250 wall tube for sliders.
Ya there heavy but they can take the abuse you will put them through.
My buggy in Utah had them like that and they are making there way under my friends JK 2 door...they are perfect for it wheel well to wheel well without any mods....
He just needs to get them installed!

What don't you like about them? Other than the kick out at the back which I don't care for they are fairly "typical". $900 for a .188" wall rocker guard really isn't a bad deal. What would you like to see different?

Why do I beam? What do you hope to gain over rectangle under the body seam? I beam doesn't have great torsional rigidity and would'nt slide over rocks as well as rectangle.
