Default Fall Adopt a Trail Clean Up

    Adopt a Trail Clean Up
    Sat 9/23 at 9am

Meet at the FS ranger station at the hwy 103 (Mt Evans) exit off I-70 in Idaho Springs

We have 2 sponsored trails: Devils Canyon (DC) and Barbour Fork (BF)
This will be our second and final clean-up before these trails close for the season.
Additionally, the aspen should be turning color, and these trails have good views (especially DC).

We will split into two groups (one for each trail) before leaving the FS station, and each group will clean only on trail. Often, if the clean-up goes well, there is time to go run the other trail (or something else in the area). If you have strong preference for which trail you run, comment when you sign-up on calendar. Time frame is generally 6 or so hours - leaves time to run the other trail if you like in the later afternoon.

Please wear appropriate footwear (no open toe shoes at a minimum) and gloves (FS is making a point about this)
    Helpful but not required:
Sturdy trash bags and buckets with carry handle are great for trash if you have them
Small hand garden tools and extra water are great for picking through fire rings and putting out fires

    Trail information:
    DC: https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/281-devil-s-canyon
    BF: https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/212-barbour-fork
In short, DC is very stock friendly for any 4wd, and BF is a bit more challenging for longer and lower stock. A high clearance stock vehicle (e.g. jeep wrangler) should be fine with just a bit of driver skill and spotting at a couple places (and less concern about bumping or dragging the bottom a bit).

The Aspen typically show peak colors between the second and third weeks of September. Unless we get some harsh weather and high wind, the 23rd should be AWESOME in the Idaho Springs area.

Any age restriction from the FS? Would like to have my child along, 6 years old.

No age restriction, parents/guardians have to sign for their minor children. Also, make sure everyone is dressed appropriately: No open toed footwear, long pants, sleeves, gloves. We had to wear hard hats to drive posts.

Weather update: Sat in Idaho Springs is looking to be cool with chance of showers, so please be prepared for conditions. The clean-up run goes no matter the weather. Forecast suggests temps to be in the 40s at 9am for safety briefing with FS, and warming up to about 60 for high. Trail temps will be a bit cooler due to higher elevations - especially the trailhead for DC and the top of BF.

That does not look right according to Google Maps. Its the SW corner of the intersection of I-70 and Co hwy 103 (I70 exit 240).
Try this google map link where the red pin is (101 CO-103): https://www.google.com/maps/place/10....5220223?hl=en

That is a ranger office, but not the one we meet at. James is on point, the one we want is what he says.

Time to shore up those maybe’s. We could really use the help, I would prefer to get off the trail at a reasonable time.

Do we need to fill out any paper work ahead of time? Or will that be provided by the FS when we get there?

Took my Jeep in Thursday for some trouble shooting on a driveline vibe. Was supposed to be done today, but just got a call an hour ago that the front driveshaft is bent. Not going to make it. RSVP updated to 'no'.

I told the shop they could have my rig on Tuesday because I was committed to something on Saturday. Unless there is a blizzard or a flood, I see no reason why I won't be there in the morning.
