    Default New Rig

Well, it was a good run. After 24 years with the Scout I decided to make a change. I bought it from the original owner in 1993 with 80K miles on it. It was the DD for years but slowly morphed into trail duty only. Over the last few years in particular I was finding myself spending more time on a garage creeper than a trail, and the relaxing hobby was turning into a part time job. I decided to consolidate the Scout (trail rig) and the XJ (daily driver) into a single rig and got them both sold this weekend. This LJ seems like it will work pretty well as a 'do it all' rig. It's got some nice upgrades, but is still tame enough for a morning commute. Here's the only pic I have right now, but I pulled the winch off the Scout before I sold it and moved it over to the LJ. I have new wheels/tires on order and they may be in by the weekend. Hopefully this move will turn into a positive one and I can catch up with you guys more often on the trails.

An LJ is a great starting platform. Minor mods running 33s will make it both DD friendly and very capable on the trail. Hate to see old iron go, but I feel you...sometimes you just want to wheel and not spend all the time wrenching. I prefer wheeling over wrenching as well.

Nice LJ. Looks the same color as mine. I thought they only made LJ in 2005 and 2006? (Mine is an 05)

A bit of change - for solid reason. I'll miss seeing the Scout but it'll be better to meet you on the trail.

No not a Jeep! Seriously just kidding. One of my wheeling buddies runs a LJ 0n 37's and does quite well. Looks like it has some mods done to it already? As far as in the garage, do I see a HP 44 front and a 9" rear in the future ? Nice looking jeep! Although I agree with Jim, I'll miss the Scout as I am partial to them, my parents had one that they 4x4'd in when I was very young.

Pulled this straight from wiki so it must be true

In April 2004, Jeep introduced the 2004 1/2 Wrangler Unlimited (unofficially dubbed "LJ") with a 10-inch (250 mm) longer wheelbase (LWB), a Dana 44 rear axle with a 3.73 gear ratio and the Command-Trac NV231 transfer case. In late 2004, Jeep released the Rubicon Unlimited, which has the wheelbase of the Unlimited and the off-road features of the Rubicon such as front and rear Dana 44 axles with the Rock-Trac NV241 four-wheel-drive system, diamond plate rocker guards, 245/75R16 Goodyear MT/R tires, a six-speed manual transmission and other comfort and convenience options not offered on other Wranglers. This model of the Jeep Wrangler has nearly double the towing capacity of its shorter wheelbase sibling, partly due to the increased wheelbase. (3500 lbs LJ vs 2000 lbs TJ)

It at least has a D44 rear and some chromo's are prolly in the future for the D30 upfront. THe wheels I ordered have 4" backspacing so I'll see if I can ditch the spacers.

Here's how it's set up right now:

    Auto trans with cruise control
3" Race Car Dynamics progressive rate spring lift
    Bilstein 5100 shocks
    4.88 gears
    315/75-16 (35") Cooper AT3s
    OEM TJ/LJ Rubicon/Moab wheels
    1.25" Spidertrax spacers
Metalcloak overline front fenders with 4" flare
    Metalcoak front lower control arms
    Exogate HD tire carrier
    OEM LJ Rubicon sliders
    Rugged Ridge steering box skid
Dana 30 with Rugged Ridge diff cover
Dana 44 with LSD with Poison Spyder cover
    JKS quick disconnects
EBC yellow stuff front brake pads & centric premium rotors
Headlights upgraded to IPF housings with Philips Xtreme H4 bulbs
    LJ Spidershade top
    Correct speedometer gear
Mopar bumper ends to replace "milk jugs"
    Rugged Ridge grab handles

Mine had the 4" back spacing was nice and wide as well kept things of the suspension.
You will love this ride over you scout.

I feel ya on the become a part time job.
Thus why my TJ want away

I hope you will enjoy the new ride.

As for the rear axle, the K4 kit from janz engineering is well worth the work.
You get the big pinion JK geras stuffed into this axle!
Carl is easy to deal with, he even made kit changes when mine had issues.
And at $250 for all the parts with out the gear set it's not expensive.
You would need a 3.73 carrier and a set of JK gears!
Adds 45% to the rear axle strength, add some chromo shafts and call it done.
    Truss maybe.....

Hope you enjoy it it is a good looking one!

Beautiful LJ!! I lost out on a bidding war on one that color when I bought mine, it's really nice.

It's a shame you had to let the scout go but now more 'YES's should be in your future!
Good looking Jeep too! Congrats man.
