Default What tub is this? (CJ5)

Never seen a tub like this so I'm guessing it must be aftermarket or custom fab...

I'd vote stock CJ-5 tub with a custom hard top (but I'm NO expert).

It has the stamped "Jeep" lettering forward of the door hinge so I'm guessing the tub is factory. In their custom work they removed the wheel-bump at the lower back of the door and replaced it with a straight line as that's easier for making a custom door.

Its hard for me to get past the ugly...kind of looks like it might be a dj tub/top with some home mods. Also, those front fenders are modified...maybe even from a Rover...or at least inspired by rover's round front fenders. Has the base of an intermediate cj5 (72-75), but has had some serious changes as well. I posted on the early cj forum...sometimes they know of 'kits' etc that may have been around back in the day - and also there are some dj lovers there as well.

Seller said it is an original DJ (unmodified). The top looks about right (with a rack added), but I agree the fenders look odd (almost looks like one piece with the tub), and I don't know if the fuel filler is in the same place as a DJ.

never seen doors like that on a DJ - they have hanging slider doors that attach via a rail on the top, no hinges along the front and overlap the tub - they don't fit flush. Guessing its a modified DJ tub and top and doors. Front fenders are unknown to me.

Front fenders look a bit like CJ-10 fenders, but without the lights. I wonder how well the 304 fits in there?

The hood and cowl length look like an early cj5 (up to 1972) - which is 3 inches shorter than the later cjs. AMC extended the front 3 inches to fit the inline 6, and it did give more room for the v8 304. But that being said, the early cjs fit v8s without too much hassle (although the v6 is just about perfect) - its the straight 6s that won't fit without a lot of hassle (and usually modification to the firewall).

The DJ should be RHD - this is a LHD vehicle. Also, the wiper motor sticking out through the front of the windshield is a bit odd (not to mention the bottom). It also looks like the windshield has hinges, which the DJ would not.

Actually, the wiper motor is one of the few things that look "right" about this Jeep. It would be better with the cover installed though.

Don't know if all DJs were mail carriers or maybe there were some variants. Alaskan Postal CJ8s were pretty easy to convert to LHD (just as most CJs can be converted to RHD), so I wouldn't rule that out either.

For some reason though, this just reminds me of an aftermarket kit of some sort.

There were LHD DJs - often for use on military bases. Jeff - you bring a good point about the hinged windshield - not sure what DJs had. Its an interesting mix of stuff and I think some fabrication, although it all fits together pretty seamlessly. The bottom mount, outside windshield motor is just like my CJ (missing the cover). Looks like a later model, early cj5 windshield.

My 66 had the wipers on the top and the motor(s) inside the cab. I guess they were original vacuum operated, but someone converted it to dual electrics. Didn't realize that when they put the wipers at the bottom that the motor got mounted outside.

Yes - the 'earlier' early cj5s had top mounted vacuum wipers. I don't remember the exact year those changed to bottom mount electric - somewhere in the later 60's.
