Default Argentine Pass September 9th, 10am

OK planning to do Argentine Pass on September 9th. It is on the calendar.

This is a trip to show my son who is visiting from California a little of the rugged outdoors that Colorado has to offer.

Link to the RSVP page is here:

    http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/...y=2017-9-9&c=1

I'm really hoping that one or two of you will join me so that I don't have to cancel this. I'm not one to go out there and do it solo. Last time I took my son out solo it took 7 hours to recover, some $350 and he didn't go out with me again.

    Technical rating: (3-4) Easy

Rutted and/or rocky road. No shelves but rocks to 9". Water crossings usually less than hub deep. Passable mud. Grades moderate, up to 15 degrees. Side hill moderate up to 15 degrees. 4WD under most conditions. No width problems, vehicle passing spots frequently available if less than two vehicles wide.

From my understanding full size 4x4s can make this trail.

This is still a ways out, but interested as its not labor day weekend. Would be worth considering running up McClleland while you are up there, or even if just returning down from Argentine, taking the McClelland road out (through the creek and parallel to the Argentine road). just food for thought...

I'd be willing to consider it. Don't want to overwhelm my son and if it fit in sure it is worth considering. Once there are a couple of Yes RSVPs we can put it out for a group decision.

I'm down for this run. Full Size is OK for most of it. Definitely will be making 3 point or more turns going up the switchbacks to Mclellan Mountain and prepare for some Colorado Pin Striping on a few areas right above tree line due to the willows.

I am wondering the same thing...and I am thinking of going as well...but 9-10 vehicles is a lot on the sections above santiago mine. There is no real parking for that many vehicles at the top or either Argentine or McClelland. And both upper sections, especially McClelland, its a pretty narrow shelf road without much room to pass. Thinking the group might consider splitting up at Santiago, with some going up McClelland and some going up Argentine. Could also split up at the bottom, with some going up via the more challenging creek route (technically McClelland) and some going via the easier old railroad grade (technically Argentine) - they run parallel to each other.

I’m thinking of going to, two groups would be mandatory IMHO. Santiago is blocked off isn’t it? I recall it’s been sold and the new owner isn’t very accommodating.

Edit: I just noticed RS is running Argentine as well. http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/foru...ad.php?t=25753

I’m sure there are others too. Looks like it may be crowded.

Hey I'm all for two groups. I don't think I've been anywhere lately that it hasn't been a bit of a crowd. We will just have to make due. My whole reason for picking Argentine Pass was because I've heard that it is a great view and that is is easy to moderate. You know me, I'm up for moderate and above a little. But my son is not as enthusiastic about wheeling and not great with drop off heights and so I wanted something that would not push his limits. I want him to enjoy himself and more important want to come back and visit dear ole dad.

I've never wheeled in the area so any and all recommendations are appreciated. We can finalize our plans at the link up tomorrow morning.
