    Default Pickle Gulch 7-11

Great day, great company, and a fun trail system. Thanks to FINOCJ and PhillipG65 for arranging this. Nice to watch the CJ and F-150 at play.

Was a fun day - still learning the network of trails above pickle gulch, Still haven't really figured out where we went for the loop. Will get a few pics posted soon.

It took a few minutes with google earth, but I figured out where we ended up. We ran up pickle gulch to the 4 way intersection where chris went through the mud puddle pit. According to trails offroad this is the end of pickle gulch. We continued straight through onto dakota hill trail for a bit and then veered left onto michigan hill where we had lunch. All of this was as planned and on the mvum I was using. Of course after lunch we followed the sign to silver creek where the big mine and creek crossing was. This was also where I got us off the plan. I took us down to the right where we eventually turned right again and had the most challenging big steep hill climb which brought us back to michigan hill where we had lunch. We choose to go over the hill and down to the apex road.

So what I was hoping to do...if we had gone left at the silver creek crossing and mine we would have come out at the 4way intersection at the top of pickle gulch in about a 1/4 mile. Then we could have descended back down pickle gulch.

It turned out fine as the steep hill climb was fun. It got Phillip's blood pumping a bit and I got to use my lockers.

I have run Pickle Gulch a few times and have gotten lost every time! I think I know the steep hill you speak of! I remember most of the trail to be fairly easy and the scenery really nice but it's easy to get lost and there are some pucker moments! It's been a while. I need to go back and do it again!

If I can remember where the hole is that I fell in, I'd do it again for sure.

Is that the one where you need to get to the far left before you descend and then hope and pray you don't face-plant on the way down??? A short bit of a hill but potentially a bad landing... The way back up is a lot easier if I recall.

We ran this one uphill, very loose soil with rocks mixed in and easy to dig a hole. Fairly short, but a challenge to get through.

I really enjoyed the challenge of going up the loose rock area but if I knew to keep the eyes peeled for the hole I dropped in I'd ok. Not sure I wanna try it again, but if thats the way we all go, then so be it. I love the rest of the trails, even though my nurves were shaken, I am ok

i think if you ran up the right side where I ended up going around you, you would do fine.
