Default lower elevation camping spots - off grid or forest service

hey guys, kinda last-minute, but we're wanting to go camping this weekend for Father's Day. we had planned on going to Buffalo Creek, but they're running a 100 mile bike race out there, so it's going to be crowded. we had thought of just staying up near Ned, but the temp is supposed to get down to 45 at night and that's just a little too cold for our 4 year old.

any suggestions for camping closer to 6500 ft elevation that aren't too far from Black Hawk or Ned?

Well, if you don't mind a drive, Balanced rock road out of Monument. Some of the best campspots I have run across and at the bottom there is a good sized lake with picture perfect camp spots. Really can't think of anything that is that low of elevation in the Blackhawk area.

Gross Reservoir? I just camped at Fourmile and it's great, but not exactly close.
