    Default MSV/Coney Sunday July 9, 2017

It's on the calendar: http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/...7&day=2017-7-9 (hope that link is the right way to do it??) Really excited! As it snows today...is it July yet?

MSV/Coney Flats - meet at the Camp Dick trailhead of MSV at 8:30, aired down and ready to hit the trail (hopefully, other groups permitting) at 9:00.

    Trail Damage info: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=18

This is a great beginner trail! Gorgeous, gulchy (not cliffy), and fun obstacles.

(I probably won't have a CB or a winch by then...)

    Directions (also from TD):
From Boulder, take Canyon Boulevard west to Nederland. Take Route 72 north from Nederland 16.2 miles to Peaceful Valley. Follow signs to Camp Dick on the left to get to Middle St. Vrain trail which is at the far end of the Camp.

For an additional challenge run Coney Flats after this trail. Coney Flats intersects Middle St. Vrain near the end of the trail as a very sharp left turn up a hill. You can run to the end of Middle St. Vrain and turn around to get back to the start of Coney Flats in about five minutes -- it's worth it for the scenery but there are no additional obstacles

Opened today thanks to the hard work of the Tralridge Runners off road club. I understand about 30 trees were cleared. And a lot of other maintainence at the upper water crossing.

    no snow

Why isn't the trail open earlier in the season? It seems like it would be fun in the snow.

Same reason the FS gates and closes other trails in the winter. They don't want it damaged.

A buddy went by yesterday and confirmed its definitely open. Lots of mud and high water in the crossings I understand.

I'm wondering if my F150 would get through this trail. We have made it through Barbour Fork without much trouble. Looking for input from other wheelers, Tell me what you think

Don't know your rig but know a guy with a pu and camper that runs it no problem. Only a couple of tight corners. Don't think you'd have any major issues.

They could probably make it, it would probably help to know what tires are on it. My Rubicon made it totally stock but the undercarriage was certainly a little different after. I think I used the rear locker on one part of Coney, but I am sure I didn't need to.

So my real advantage was the lower low range, better clearance angles, although breakover isn't super far off for the 4x4 F-150. I'd really think about how many miles are on the suspension and steering. I would imagine if they get past the gatekeeper and still feel good they could run the whole trail. And if not, there would SURELY be an open seat.

I've seen far less capable vehicles in more difficult places. Antero was littered with FWD vehicles until the main climb.

    F150 might be rough.
but if you on bigger tires and such you will do fine.
as jim mentioned ther is a few big rocks just in from the gate keeper.
if you cant get passed the 1st set of rocks dont bother.
    coney is much more aggressive.

I hope to get my skid built through the week so we can do this run.

I have been under the jeep for near a month getting things fixed or upgraded or moved.
will be nice to wheel it with little issues for some time.

This past Saturday was amazing up there - our group (10 rigs) somehow missed most of the other people, and we didn't bottle neck until right before the pond at the top, and our lunches were timed in such a way that just about everyone was gone by the time we were ready to leave. The water running over the rocks and down the trail (a lot more copiously than normal) was awesome on MSV. Really excited about this coming Sunday!
