I will be in Durango May 30th-June 2nd. I was thinking about doing the Alpine Loop. Keep in mind I have never done a trail before. Think this is ok for a noob?

My suggestion is to check trail conditions before you leave. The mountains have gotten TONS of snow, including the Durango area. Purgatory ski area is finally closing this weekend, which is unprecedented. The trails may still be blocked with snow when you are planning to travel.
I would be concerned about snow blockage as well...If no snow, the trails are pretty easy in terms of vehicle requirements but a few places are kind or narrow with some steep drop-offs.

I will thank you!
If that's the case I will have a heart attack.

I didn't pay attention to your dates Jamie but have to agree with these posts. I hold off until July for that area and have been turned back by snow on the 4th of July weekend.

We ran Cinnamon Pass yesterday. Silverton to Lake City is open. Everything else is still closed for the most part. I did see on SOAJEEP that Yankee Boy Basin was partially open, but an old timer down here told me to stay off. He said I would have to back out and it would be no fun. Engineer is partially open but was also advised to avoid. Will post some video and pics when I get them together.
I think Ophir might also be open.
Not according to any of the folks I talked to.😄
Ophir is open to the top from the east side.

Look for a post from May 29th. Might be useful.
Thanks for the info! I talked with two different companies that rent Jeeps, Razers, etc. both told me Cinnamon was the only one they would go on. One company was out of Silverton the other out of Ouray. It actually worked out ok, we didn't have time to do more. Sorry for putting out incorrect information.
I finally got my Alpine Loop/Cinnamon Pass video uploaded. It is all handheld cell phone so it is not great, might need a Dramamine to watch.
