Default Yankee Hill - Sunday morning Apr 30

Last weekend Yankee Hill run looked like a good time but some of us couldn't make it. I'm wondering if anyone wants to give it a try this weekend..... it's supposed to be rainy and snowy up until Sunday, when it's looking like the sun comes out. Any interest?

I am very interested in this. I was sorry I couldn't make it last weekend. I will know better as we get closer.

Snow doesn't melt that fast. Betting your looking at a foot or more on the trail.

A foot? I don't think so.... a couple inches, maybe. It's not supposed to snow much, it's a rain/snow mix which doesn't accumulate much. Plus I live at 8500 elevation so I'll be able to gauge if there is snow accumulating or not by then but I wouldn't worry about a little snow

As you are probably correct on how much snow we will get, the snow is pretty deep in areas and with freezing temps the tracks could be iced over making it a lot different than is was last weekend. Bring recovery gear for sure.

yeah, we've not gotten much since last weekend, and it's not really supposed to be a lot. but even still, a few more inches could make it impassable depending on the route. you guys tried a harder route last weekend than I took. but even the way I went had a couple miles of snowy trail.

I can update with how much snow we get tonight and tomorrow.

also, Matt, be careful judging how much snow you guys get with how much Yankee (or anywhere else for that matter) gets. I live less than 4 miles from Yankee as the crow flies and there have been plenty of nights where I got 4" of snow and Yankee got 18-20. and I'm at 9200 feet. gotta love the mountains!

Having slid down 100' plus on a iced trail I am just putting fair warning out there. I am also going on the weather report from last night. This morning it looks like 4-8".

I appreciate the advice guys, and having lived in the high country since the 90's I completely understand the concerns. I have no problem turning around if and when needed, but I do like a challenge as well -- I've got recovery gear covered for my truck but I do not have a winch and wouldn't take much of a risk without a winch being along for the trip (which is why I am trying to get some folks interested in this) ;-)

Considering Rock Creek turned me back at barely over 9000 feet due to snow, I can understand if Yankee Hill ends up impassible..... but I do like a good dirt road cruise and wouldn't be disappointed even if I had to turn around

I was not just posting for you but rather anyone considering going. A lot of trail rescues can be avoided by being informed. It does look to be a sunny day on Sunday.

Following...depending on snow (last snow run was super sucky - two broken rear windows, and a dented door over three rigs).

As much as I'd love to get a run in before my surgery next week I cannot go play. :(

Snow just started falling in Boulder..... this could be a real storm with lots of snow. I'm keeping an eye on this and hoping the snow misses the mark but we will see.....

Fort Collins was just seeing a rain-snow mix. If we're getting snow down here - it's SNOWING up there!

Nothing here in Centennial. I did get wet though. Fixed a leaking water inlet valve on my dishwasher.

    http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/w...torm%20warning

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM MDT SATURDAY...

    * SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...6 to 12 inches. The heaviest amounts will likely be in the southern part of the Denver metro area

The above is for the Denver / Fort Collins area.

I was chatting with a client in Lander WY. They said they've been getting heavy wet flakes since last night. Ground's still warm so it's melting off. They are at 6000 feet (and a long way away from us). FoCo's getting "mostly rain" with occasional "fat slush-drops".

    Yep - gotta love it!!!

FoCo - HUGE flakes - starting to stick.

Just chatting with a client in Ogden UT - they're getting huge snow (report of 2 feet at one of the ski resorts).
