    Press Release:
Central City / Gilpin County Joint Cemetery Roadway Fencing Project Will Start Next Week

Over the past few years, the area generally known as the Cemetery District located at the junction of Upper Apex Valley Road, Bald Mountain Road, Columbine Campground Road, and Eureka Street has been negatively impacted by a growing number of people using the area. Some of the activity conducted there has been considered unsafe, resulting in an increased number of law enforcement calls and patrols.

Both the Central City Council and the Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners have taken notice of this activity. In an effort to provide for the public health, welfare and safety of our citizens and visitors, it was determined that both jurisdictions will jointly install fencing along the shared public roadways in the area. As a result of this effort, the U.S. Forest Service is investigating the possibility of designating a future off-highway vehicle (OHV) staging/parking area within Forest Service lands. Both jurisdictions, along with outdoor recreation groups, look forward to working together to develop a long-term solution to accommodate various recreational uses in the area in a carefully planned, safe and thoughtful manner.

The fence project is anticipated to be completed by May 10, 2017.
