Default Dick Cepek Extreme Terrain Tire Review

It was time for new tires for the 3rd gen 4Runner, so upon a lot of research and pricing I decided upon the Dick Cepek Extreme Terrains. In the past I really have never givin Dick Cepek tires a thought due to the expensive price attached to them. When I bought the 3rd gen it came with some Dick Cepek (DC) Fun country 2's. Was very impressed with the traction these tires gave and the great wear on them. So I figured why not see what their new Extreme terrain tires had to offer. I paid $200. a tire on Amazon for the set for 285/75/16, (about 33x11.5).
First, they balanced without very much weight at all. When I drove from the tire shop I could not believe how smooth they rode (givin the load range) and the handling on the highway was more than acceptable. On the highway they are extremely quiet for a "mud" tire, I could actually hear the wind hitting the 4runner rather than tires. They do still give a slight hum at higher speeds but not bad at all. Off road they act almost like sticky's , had to try really hard to break a tire loose in the dirt. On the same trail I had to use the factor-e-locker I did not with these. I found a little frozen over snow to run through and had no issues at all. No real mud testing yet or major snow but plan on updating when tested. For the rocks, same great traction and according to them, (DC) they use a new sidewall science to keep them tougher without added weight and heat. So far they have been a very impressive tire for the money. Again, will report back when I get further down the trail with them!

I've been running them for a year and half on the BJ, I also had DC on the FJ Cruiser and I can't say anything bad about them. Good choice as far as my experience.

Update: Ran some pretty loose sharp rock on a steep incline, some tire spinning. I was worried that I just chunked the heck out of my tires but got out and looked and no chunking whatsoever. Also up at Rainbow falls there is what I consider a "mini" mini moab with same rock type. Had no issues climbing it. This all with tires aired up. Now I put these tires to the test that weekend with some mud rocks, ice and snow. They seemed to performed as expected for a crossover mud/all terrain tire. Back on the highway I wanted to see if they kept their balance, all was good. The only complaint I have (and have had with most lugged tires) is they hold on to rocks stuck in the tread, and have to pry them out sometimes, don't want a huge rock flinging in someones windshield on the highway!
