It was time for new tires for the 3rd gen 4Runner, so upon a lot of research and pricing I decided upon the Dick Cepek Extreme Terrains. In the past I really have never givin Dick Cepek tires a thought due to the expensive price attached to them. When I bought the 3rd gen it came with some Dick Cepek (DC) Fun country 2's. Was very impressed with the traction these tires gave and the great wear on them. So I figured why not see what their new Extreme terrain tires had to offer. I paid $200. a tire on Amazon for the set for 285/75/16, (about 33x11.5).
First, they balanced without very much weight at all. When I drove from the tire shop I could not believe how smooth they rode (givin the load range) and the handling on the highway was more than acceptable. On the highway they are extremely quiet for a "mud" tire, I could actually hear the wind hitting the 4runner rather than tires. They do still give a slight hum at higher speeds but not bad at all. Off road they act almost like sticky's , had to try really hard to break a tire loose in the dirt. On the same trail I had to use the factor-e-locker I did not with these. I found a little frozen over snow to run through and had no issues at all. No real mud testing yet or major snow but plan on updating when tested. For the rocks, same great traction and according to them, (DC) they use a new sidewall science to keep them tougher without added weight and heat. So far they have been a very impressive tire for the money. Again, will report back when I get further down the trail with them!
