Default More carnage. This time on Indy

Busted a rear shaft on Indy this weekend. The broken pieces knocked the lock tab off of the carrier adjuster nut and backed the nut almost completely out damaging the nut. Luckily the gears are undamaged.

    Bummer.

Any option to change so this break doesn't happen again or you just need to watch the gas pedal more?

It was a combination of things that caused it to break. I wasn't really hard on the throttle. Just had it bound up pretty good trying to climb out of a hole. Ultimately the little toyota axle just isn't stout enough for my driving style I guess. I have 3 choices. 1. Keep wheeling it and stock up on spares. 2. Build up a new rear axle (fj80 full floater or more likely a ford 9". Or 3. Sell it and get something else. For now I'm going with option 1 while I determine which works better for me in the long run, either 2 or 3.

Would you consider going to a smaller / shorter tire before going option 2 or 3?

Keeping an eye on the gas pedal and a spare seems like my starting thought - and see how often it would happen.

If anything he needs bigger tires to not get bound up in the hole.

Yeah I'm not going to a smaller tire. I probably should have just taken the winch sooner and avoided the breakage. But it's always more fun to try and drive it.
