    Default Back Surgery

As some of you know I've been avoiding getting my back fixed for 10-15 years now. In June I blew it by lifting my spare getting ready to go to Moab with Ryan. It's been a long painful 4 months and I can't put it off any longer if I want to much more than spend the rest of my life sitting on my @ss. I might be getting old but I'm not ready to be old. Met with the surgeon, had the compulsory visit to my vascular doc for another issue but got cleared by him today. He assists so a couple more hoops and I'll be getting it scheduled.

Kinda sucks but pain sucks more. Boredom sucks too so in preparation I'm also working on the site mentioned in this thread: http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/...7-4x4-Colorado

I hope it all goes well. I had a discectomy about 4 weeks ago, most of my pain is gone.

Sounds like all your troubles are behind you. Hope the surgery fixes it, you've been dealing with that too long.

Thanks folks, I'll have a titanium cage fused where my L5/S1 disc is supposed to be. It's been gone for years and bone against bone leads calcification and nerve issues. Theoretically building a new spine base will allow the discs above to align more properly and stop bulging against the nerves.

Beats the hell out of the 4-5 disc fusion that has been suggested for the last 10 years.

Good luck. My dad had back problems for a long time and so did my grandpa my fingers are crossed I don't develop any issues but we will see. My dad got back surgery about 4 years and he has been doing 100% since then. He was like you fairly reluctant to get the surgery but once it was all said and done I'm sure he would have gotten it earlier.

Good luck Chris! It's something I fear is in my future as well. My mother just had neck surgery and they replaced a disc. She is much better as a result.

It sounds like the newer procedure is worth the wait. You'll be in my thoughts.

Thanks again, moving forward slowly but making progress. Every step forward adds to my anxiety, I'm realizing that I don't really like the whole idea but it's time.

Brad, remember Pathrat? She had the artificial disc surgery on her next and was extremely happy with it.

Bring on the snow! I don't want to be in recovery from the fusion while it's nice outside! I get the surgery date tomorrow so I can still back out. I've this this far and might as well go for it. The best that can happen is I'll be pain free for the first time in 10-15 years. The worst that can happen is... (something I have to ignore.)
