Default Large open spaces to teach kids to ride a dirt bike?

I'm going to try to pick up a Yamaha TW200 this weekend with the goal of teaching my kids to ride. Suggestions on wide-open spaces to teach them to ride? Pawnee Grasslands and the area around Walden sand dunes (but not the dunes themselves) seem like good ideas but they're a long way from Longmont.

I'm aware of the IMI Motorsports track near I-25. Looking for something much more low-key and less populated. I'm also looking into the MSF dirt bike school but want to find someplace for them to put around in 1st gear for a while first.

    Other suggestions?

    Thanks,
    -Charles

We started teaching our daughter on Switzerland Trail. There is a small flat spot at the beginning with no obstacles and very little traffic. I drove my Jeep in front of her and my husband walked behind. She was instructed to stay at least 20 feet behind me and watch my break lights. She was also instructed to stay to the right and come to a complete stop if there was oncoming traffic.Of course since I was in front of her, I was able to stop or slow traffic and let them know there was a child on a motor bike behind me. We would drive about a 1/2 mile then turn around and go back and repeat the process until she was too tired! A great place to learn I think!!!

I also recall seeing a member here let his young boy drive the tuck around a large flat area on China Wall just before you get to "the Wall". The kid was only 10 or 11 and was driving like a champ and having a blast!

About a year or so later, we took our girl out to our back yard for some practice when the snow melted. (She crashed and decided she never wanted to try it again). We sold it and bought two kayaks! She loves the water, and we're just a little more than a mile from Evergreen Lake!

Next up, I need to teach her to drive my Jeep. She's only 11 now, but by the time she can legally drive, I can see this being her first car.

We loved her little Honda, but if she is too afraid to drive it then... no forcing the issue.

Get them out there and have some fun!

look on the mvum. there are alot of basic gravel roads in the national forest that are open to ohv's. cherokee park comes to mind and alot of the roads off of deadman road west of red feather. pole hill would be another good choice.
