    Default XJ Half Doors

So last year I found out that I really enjoy trailing riding without the doors on the XJ and found out exactly how heavy the OEM doors are 58.5lbs front 43.5lbs rear 204 total. So my intentions were to cut down a set of doors and call it good (still more weight than I like) or build a set of tube doors so what I came up with was hybrid of both which should cut my total weight about 43% for a new "door" weight of 117.
I was able to remove the door skins keeping all but the top pinch seams and use OEM strikers, latches, hinges (reversed) and door handles. I use left over metal 1.5x.120 tubing along with 2x1.5x11g to construct the frame, still need to install a set of mirrors.

Those are awesome! I've been tossing around a few ideas for half doors. Your design really does look great.

We should hit a trail soon. I've been off the forums for months, I'm glad to see this as my first thread back.

Well I finally have the rear half door design completed, after several attempts here's what I came up with.

Using the same hinge/post design as before but changed to 1" tubing due to the space restrictions on the rear OEM latch plus hoping to cut some more weight as these are more "cosmetic" than the front doors. I already had the rear door skins removed and trimmed which sucks because as you can see I needed about 3" the rear to cover the latch assembly I may try to patch a piece in as my OCD medication is wearing off. Overall I'm most happy with the weight reduction of 64% or 129lbs which is huge IMO, 4 OEM XJ doors = 204lbs vs. 4 Half Doors = 75lb .

I was admiring the front set while on Kelly Flats. You did a great job. My only advise, if you ever made another set, would be to make the rear of the front door match the height of the front of the rear door.

[QUOTE=newracer;303325] I would be to make the rear of the front door match the height of the front of the rear door.

That's what I thought my plan was but the factory top hinge is right there so I think it would look better to coverer it up? To your point to continue the body line front to rear would be the cleanest look, I'm hoping that once I paint it green that part will blend into the B pillar if not may trim if off?

You could add some to the rear of the front doors...

    Looking good!
