My name is Matt I own a 1985 FJ60 and I'm in the middle of a build on it. I wanted to get involved with a cool group of guys and gals that I will be able to learn a thing or two from and maybe be able to provide the same back. I've done some wheeling in the past, Rubicon trail several times but never all the way through, that's a story for another time. I've owned an FJ40 in the past and my FJ60 now. I bought the 60 in 92' here in Colorado, drove it until 2003ish and parked it. Fast forward to 2016, it's time to wake it up!
The Build - the entire drive train is new staring with the 2f power plant, it's been built to factory specs with the following exceptions, Fuel injection, electronic Ignition, header and low flow cat. Transmission and transfer case have been gone through and are ready to put all that torque to work. The rig will feature an ARB air locker in the front, Detroit locker in the rear with a 4:56 gear ratio turning 33" General Grabbers. The rear axle has been converted to disc brakes and the parking brake moved to the rear of the transfer case. All of this sits on 3"+ Old Man Emu Springs and shocks, the front axle enjoys a shackle reversal.
At this point I plan on keeping the interior stock, may be the addition of an interior roll cage and meager stereo system. On the exterior things will remain stock as well with the exception of the front and rear bumpers. Recovery is always important when you get yourself into that "spot" so I'm using the ARB bull bar in the front hosting a Warn M8274-50 winch. The rear will support a ManaFre rear bumper with dual swings for spare tire and jerry cans/highlift jack.
I will be posting pictures, once I figure out how to, I did include an attachment photo of the work.
I'm looking forward to making new friends and I hope to have things ready to roll late spring early summer so I can hit the trails.
Happy Wheeling!
Matt
