    Default Spring creek/trail creek

    A fantastic day to be up in the mountains with cooler air!!

    Not too many pix, and surprisingly NO video (several vid's were on the phone but they were "zero byte" files).

    On the way to the meet spot there were two bridges lined with police. They were out of their vehicle talking. Unknown as to what was up.

    The first obstacle wanted to bend a tie-rod so that gave us a diversion for the day. Sadly, it didn't take top spot for carnage of the day. Louis's NICE, clean, 2014 FJ Cruiser had some body rash when a right side rock tipped the left side into a tree. A few rocks were modified and some other bodywork was enhanced though none was extreme.

    It was enjoyable to try out a few different firearms. We made a grand mess and cleaned the mess up and you would not know we were there.

    As the Jeep's down for maintenance, I rode along with Froilan and Rose. The H1 is an impressive machine and he finessed it to where he wanted it to go. I enjoyed the show. There were spots with "views out" on a narrow shelf road where I could not see any ground below and I knew I was riding in a WIDE vehicle - but I had no anxiety or concern. Well done Froilan!

    A wonderful day indeed! This was the best ride I've been on in a while. It was a good group and a fun trail [i.e. technical].

    I could not believe how many sheriff vehicles I saw on the drive. Perhaps 15 to 20 on the first overpass and half that on the second. Who were they looking for?!

    I'm also bummed about missing video - I watched Louis's body rash while grabbing at my camera/phone, listening to that horrid sound as the tree scratched then shattered his excessively protruding tail light, wishing that I caught it for my Instagram feed. It was perfect right where I was. Big ups to Louis on making it through and not giving any fox at all.

    What totally made my day was watching Froilan demolish the second obstacle. His Hummer looks almost 50% wider than a Jeep and I was curious to see how would do on narrow trail. It did great, thanks to Jim on the feedback there. I'm calling bi*ch next time! {as in I want to ride in it...}

    Anyway, check out the rock under his front driver tire:

    After that tire passes the rock, the rig is on the rock, obviously, this is what I saw coming. Below the seats, frame to edge, there is an aluminum skid plate. The truck then rested on the skid plate, so we now have the two passenger tires on the ground and the driver side supported by a rock; the driver side tires are in the air. The passenger side tires then manage to drag the 7,600 lbs machine over the rock, surprisingly quietly. No doubt, this was an incredible sight. Big ups to Froilan handling those rocks.

    Then we had five normal sized rigs go through. This is what those same rocks look like with a Jeep in them. Seriously, the rock below that Fred is looking near is the same rock that Froilan was just all up on. Wow. I have even doubted and re-checked myself on this, but look at the hook rock to the driver right in the top pic - that's just below Josh in the pic below, and the big bottom right rock below you can also see off in the corner in the first pic. They were also taken 6 minutes apart, so we we're on the same obstacle.

    Big Rocks! It is a super tight squeeze - us jeepers are like "how do we get through here?" Then we made it through, like jeepers do.

    @fredrok - I was meaning to ask about that brake light in the spare (above). I like it.

    @JEB - what's up dude!

    The trail "rocked" and the trigger was a "blast" having to sample all kinds from Jim's lever action to Fred's full auto ar15 to Louis's 50cal. I will post a link as soon I get the videos and pictures uploaded.

    I should have known when the Hummer was having a hard time getting over the 1st obstacle that we were in for a long ass day! We hit that around 945 and the last rig was through just past 1100...

    I know I left 5lbs of steel on those rocks from the undercarriage. I think everyone sustained some amount of carnage except Froilan. But he did say his ABS light was on so maybe that counts? He has a video on his phone of that 2nd obstacle passage that Evan speaks about that should look pretty cool. I posted a video on the planning thread going through that years ago with minimal effort (along with the 1st obstacle) so it speaks volumes of what the erosion has done last couple of years.

    Evan, here's a link to that light http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o05_s00 and great narration!

    It was a great group that worked together really well in the face of (fun) adversity which there was enough of yesterday. Also thanks to Froilan for organizing the Trigger 'n Trail run and for allowing us to obliterate his steel target and for Jim's (and other's?) effort in bringing stuff out to destroy. It was a well oiled firing line.

    Cheers!

    Yikes! That's not minor in my book. It's also why Spring Creek is off my list with the 4Runner. Ran it with my FJ62 but those days are past.

    My BJ40 is still under construction and for the time being I'm using the FJ cruiser. Spring Creek sounded interesting so I decided to give it a try, it was OK for the most part but I got wedged in between two trees right after the second obstacle. I will keep using the Cruiser until I finish my other rig and then will send it to the body shop

    I have to think about it, it is one of a kind, not so many replacement parts available for the diesel. If I damage something major up there, it could take month before I get a replacement part which would not be a good thing!

    If I had one, and I wish I did, it would never get any closer to Spring Creek than the freeway.

    @78bj40 - I checked out your album with the BJ40. That thing is immaculate - there's no way I'd take that up Spring Creek! A good condition BJ40 is worth way too much to risk body damage. I saw a stock FJ40 go for $23,000 recently. Body damage is what Jeeps under $2,300 are for . As much as I love Jeeps and hate to say they're disposable: they are. I say keep running the Cruiser as your trail rig.

    Awesome footage! I had no idea you got that much media. It was cool to watch myself on an obstacle, I don't think I've ever seen a video of myself in my truck. I assume someone was helping since you got some good pics & vids of your own rig. I want to figure out how to get good footage of my own rig while I'm in it.... I thought about a drone, but as much as I am a multitasker, navigating a truck around rocks while navigating a flying drone around my truck sounds like a bit too much to handle.

    @EKXJ87 - Are you running doorless now? Looks like it in your avatar. Feel the breeze!
    I tried out doorless, I like the breeze but overall prefer doors - half doors coming soon [maybe].
