Default Wanted: Pickup to purchase - Denver to FoCo area

One of the motorcycle forum folks is moving to the area and is in search of a pickup. If you have any info to help him out, post up in the thread. The desire is likely for "just a pickup" vs. a trail only pickup though a 4WD pickup could always be an option.

"We'll be in the market for a decent used pickup truck when we get out to Loveland next week. If youse local peeps know of any for sale and/or can recommend a reputable dealership in the area (or ones to avoid), we'd appreciate it."

Do they have a price range? Make preferences? Manual or automatic?

    This came back...

"Price range $12K or less, 1999 or newer with preferably under 130K miles, AWD, no pref as to manual or auto.

I lean towards F150's myself but this would be Tammy's truck."

Are there "typical" pickups with all-wheel-drive? I'd imagine four-wheel-drive is what would be more common.

I don't think I've seen an awd pickup - some of the sport utilities are.

I've seen a couple pickups for sale recently up here, but don't know any personally. But I'm sure there will be something in that range when he gets here next week between ft collins and loveland.

There were AWD pickups made before. They are called full time 4 wheel drive. My uncle used to have a 78 Chevy pickup that was full-time 4 wheel drive.

I've still never seen one, and now that I'm curious I can't find more info on them aside from a few comments and a lot of people confusing awd/fulltime/4wd. Curiously the other mentions where for 78 chevy pickups too.

Well, I heard back from Tammy and she included more specific information:

    "Jim:
Thanks for your help. Allow me to clarify the pickup thing a little. F150 is preferred, 1999 or newer single cab with long bed is preferred, four wheel drive, eight cylinder esp the small V-8, is preferred. Manual or auto ok. Price as mentioned ok.
    Thanks again
    Tammy"

I'm not asking anyone to go out of their way for research. Mainly, if anyone happens to see something - I'd appreciate a head's up.

    Thanks!

IMO stay way from Groton motors. Not sure what year they stopped making them but not a good engine from my experience.

A friend of ours is selling their 98 Dodge Ram. They are either the original owners or have had it since almost new. It is V8, automatic, extended cab, shortbed, 4wd. includes a nice matching topper. It has been well maintained. They bought a newer Dodge and won't be keeping both.

I know they were leaning toward a Ford and a longbed, so it isn't exactly what they wanted. Let me know if they want more details.
