Default Insight on 8.8 swap on 92 yj 4.0

So the funds have become available to do the swap on the ole YJ. Here is what I am thinking, any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Picking up a loose axel off a 97 Explorer ($75). Found a kit with the spring perches, U bolts, shock mounts ($140) will regear front dana 30 and rear with 4.88 ($375). purchasing a Detroit locker for rear ($650) have a SYE and will purchase CV driveshaft and flange yoke. I think there may be a few random things with the e brake and maybe some shims to get the pinion angle correct. Have a buddy that can weld the tubes and perches and shock mounts. I will do the rest. Does this sound pretty close? anything major that I may be leaving out?? Thanks in advance!

Did mine a few years ago, was pretty easy.
When ordering your drive shafts and SYE kit call up Bill at Englewood drive shaft.

Whats spline is in the 97

Some Rangers had the 8.8, and some had the 7.5. Some of the Rangers had a hybrid, which is the 8.8 casing with the 7.5 internals. If you're only pulling from an Explorer, you won't have to worry about that; Explorers always came with the 8.8.

Yes, after 95, Explorers came with disc brakes. Before that, they had drums.

Also, some Aerostars also had the 8.8. More specifically, the Aerostars with the tow package had the 8.8.

If you want to write down the axle codes so you know what you're looking for, go here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...le_codes.shtml
This page tells you the axle codes (on the door and on the axle tag) of Aerostars, Bronco IIs, Rangers, and Explorers. So you'll be able to decipher which axle (7.5 or 8.8), the gearing, limited slip or not, and capacity.

you'll also want to grab some wheel spacers to make up the loss in width. either that, or go big and get the Super 88 kit to remove the c-clips.

Is not the axel only 5/8" or so shorter?, I am putting a 1" body lift to account for the 33's in addition to the 4" suspension lift, seems like that would clear.
unless you are referring to the wider stance making offroading safer?

I think Jay is talking about eliminating the c clips while your at it. And you'll have the same width front and rear.

The c clip set up is not the best but imo not a bid deal for a 4.0 yj on 33s

something else you may consider if you have not done it already is doing a dual booster and master cylinder off of 95 YJ. it's a pretty simple upgrade if you google it you will find more than enough information.

I kinda had to but wanted to at the same time. My old booster was leaking and not working as well as it should have. It was worth just up grading it while in there.

I don't remember how short it is, but I do know that most guys who put 8.8s in their TJs use 1" spacers, including me.
