Default Yankee Hill - Sunday Feb 15th

The people that RSVP'd for this run were Chris, Brandtrbs, Ige, Atl-atl, mikeyhcrana, Racerchef, and The Dude. We met at the cemetery above Central City at 10:30 and started up the trail by 11:00.

There's plenty of detail elsewhere so what we need here are photos. Post them up!

Glad to hear that everyone made it out safe and relatively intact.

    We need more pics!

Its not that day, but Yankee Hill has been eating FrontRange 4runners this year:

I've never been on Yankee Hill, but from the video, it looked like that was an easy spot. What happened to make him go into the ditch? (Maybe I'm missing something). Was it just an "oops" moment? Nice recovery non-the-less!!!

IIRC the lower bolts on his knuckle snapped, it was a combo gift of time and previous owners over-torque, and it picked that particular spot to let go. Chris sort of explains it at around 2:30. Poor Chris is the same guy who had the flashlight explode in his mouth, he's had some tough luck lately. I could easily rename that video "how to take it like a man", he's the first one to crack a joke and he did the bulk of his own repair; no hissy fits, no throwing tools, it was actually a good time. Everyone was great that day, good attitudes go far.

The lower ball joints on that generation Tacoma and 4Runner was a pi__ poor design. When the lower ball joint or ball joint bolts fail, that is what happens. Lower control arm goes into the dirt and the tire goes into the fender. Same thing happened to my neighbors 4Runner while we were hunting this last season. We hiked out with all our gear about 2 miles then had to go back the next day with tools to fix it.

....and I'm still waiting for pics of this trail run.

    It Fell off!!!
I overtorqued the lower ball joint bolts. I had an un calibrated (read junk) torque wrench. That was a learning experience. Combination between bad tools and cheap parts. Several more videos on the trail report. Cant remember when that run was. June?
