Default drums to discs on a 8.25

So I maybe trading the 8.25 I have for another one and a non-CAD D30. The 8.25 I will get has drums instead of discs unlike the one in my possession now.

My question is how difficult and expensive would it be to change the drums on a XJ 8.25 to the discs off a KJ 8.25? I'd assume relatively straight forward being that they are the same axle but rarely is anything that way. Also what roughly would the price be and what is everything I would need to grab from a JY?

you would need the backing plates with hardware, rotors calipers and brake lines. it should all bolt on other than maybe some brake line brackets. depending on your gear ratio it may be cheaper/easier to swap in a disc brake 8.8

not necessary on the Cherokee, his truck is a little older but would be same I would figure. Alex hit the parts right. I personally would get calipers, pads and rotors new.
Curious though why you would want to let go the axle you want and build another to be like it? 97 and newer 8.25's have 29 spline axles, maybe that's why. Seems the cost would add up to as much as to get a Dana 30 from the JY. I believe you would be able to save a little money at JY by leaving all the brake parts behind and move them off your truck. You would just need to match gear ratio and look for one with minimal leaks.

I've had success swapping parts directly from a ZJ 8.25 as well. Some people have had to do minor grinding but I did not. Backing plates slid right on and everything else bolted right up except for two things. First you'll need to make your old emergency brake cable work with the disc style emergency brake. Its relatively simple, there are a thousand write-ups for this for XJs on the internet. Second your drums do not have a "flex" hose section of brake line, they just have hard line going right into the drum. You'll need to make sure you have new flex lines to go from your hard line to your disc caliper. Also you will need to mount the hard line so it does not move around when you apply brake pressure. These things sound complicated but they are pretty simple to fix. There are tons and tons of disc swap write-ups online. Ill try to dig up and link here the ones I used when I first did this swap.

Well my original intention was to not get rid of the axle and put it under my truck because the gear ratio is the same and it has discs and is a stronger axle. But my friend who I got the axle from offered me a non-CAD D30 and a 8.25 for the one I have so that he would not have to build up the one he has. So What I figured was Get 2 upgraded axles for one. Both of which are the same gear ratio which is lower then what I have now so the gears would be a slight improvement along with the axles.

Does this sound like a reasonable deal?

I don't have experience with the Liberty brake swap but this looks like a pretty good write up
