    Default Red Elephant Hill

Hey so this morning was calm but someone posted in other group they got off work early. So we decided to run a trail close to home. we got about 2 miles up the trail I made it about 1/2 mile up the whole part lol. Anyway there are a couple fallen down trees I would recommend chainsaw if you were going with a big group/full size. We made as far we could before we decided we should turn due to only having one vehicle up there and no winch(He had no remote). Anyway I had good time. Nice to get out before work. Well have pictures later

That's a fun trail. I ran it in June. No snow then until we got up near Bill Moore Lake.

No no pics of the trees blocking the trail?

That's the thing... Sunday we went on Sevenmile Creek. I looked at the chainsaw and said - nope - "It's late in the season, all of the trees will be cleared off of the trail". Nope - We went on a spur and it had two largish trees in one blockage and another we were able to strap pull out of the way. I guess the chainsaw should be standard equipment these days.

I don't normally take my chainsaw with me when I wheel but as soon as I get my tire carrier bumper finished I will have more room in the bed and will likely try to find a permanent place for it back there. I am trying to get my truck to the point where I can survive (and thrive) no matter when or where I get stuck. A chainsaw seems like the next thing I need, oh and a small can of 2-stroke fuel mixture.

I am glad you were able to get out and enjoy yourself and return unscathed. I have run Red Elephant three times this year and all three times we've had to help get a "Lone" wheeler off the mountain. One was balanced nicely on a rock that was preventing them from rolling over, one hung up in a tree and another fully stuck in some soft dirt. All three by themselves without working winches, no jack, no communicated plan of where they were going and when they would be back. Communication is spotty at best up there. On average it took 1 to 1 1/2 to get them un-screwed and back on the trail. On my last run we had one in our group hit a soft shoulder and roll on down the mountain. The trail damage report gives it a 7 which I think is fair, except when conditions are not just right. The last time it was updated was July 2012 and things change.

My point is never wheel with just one rig and especially one that has limiting factor like no controller for the winch, be prepared for the worst, have a sound rig, wheel with other rigs. It is just inviting bad things to happen. Soap box stepped off.

I agree totally. Despite my preparedness, I won't go wheeling without someone else. And I am hesitant to wheel with anyone who does not have a winch. Not because I don't trust them, but because I want to make sure anyone can help out anyone else, regardless of who is in front or rear or whatever.

I'll try to translate: They parked his XJ as a contingency for getting off the mountain. Brandon also commented that he walked most of the trail, with some time spent riding on the sliders.

We don't need a story, we need more pictures!!!!!!!!!!

That could be a great translation.
