    Default Dana 30 Sleeve

Has anyone put sleeves in a Dana 30? Is it worth it? Sleeves are about $100 bucks plus welding (plug weld the sleeves). I am considering sleeving and trussing my Dana 30 Front Axle. I already have 4.88 gears, eLockers and upgraded Axle Shafts, I run 35" on a 4" lift. For about $250 plus welding I could add some strength. I wheel pretty moderately and this is probably more preventative than anything.

If you're going to add a truss there isn't a need for the sleeves and vice versa. The main things you want to do on that axle is gusset the C's, weld skids onto your lower control arm mounts, and either sleeve or truss it. When your ball joints wear out (or when doing the c-gussets) you'll want to upgrade them as well.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure. Looking to at least gusset the C's, but was looking at Artec Industries truss system and look pretty good, and a whole lot cheaper than doing a full axle swap.

I'm running the full Artec axle armor kit on my front axle and they're truss on my rear.

I'm also running sleeves in my front axle but only because I did them as a cheap safety measure before I could get the gears and weld the truss on. I didn't want to pull my axles more than once.

That's the kit I was looking at as well. Pretty sure that's the route I am going to take. Now to find someone who can weld it up for me.

I know you're talking JK/JKU Dana 30, but the built high-pinion D30 I installed in my TJ has the C-arm gussets and a truss. I run 35s as well and like the extra measures to prevent the housing from getting bent. I've been running this setup for about 4 years without issues. Its a minimal investment and well worth it IMO.

That was my thinking vs. doing a dana 44 swap. The only real issue everyone talks about is the strength of the axle, and since I've already invested in re-gearing, lockers and chromoly axles, for a small investment I can gusset and truss without breaking the bank.

If you need somebody to do the welding I can. I've done a few of them now.

That would be great. Axle on or off?

I would prefer the axle off as its a million times easier with it on my jack stands. If you take care of the wire wheel prep work yourself too then I don't charge nearly as much because I hate wire wheeling. It tends to leave my welding jacket looking like a disco porcupine.
