Default Question about building my rig

So after wheeling pickle gulch the snow this past saturday and doing Bard creek a couple weeks ago. And seeing how other rigs are built. I have come to having for question in my head than answer. So I guess I going to start by saying. Anything posted in here is just thoughts running through my head. I am simply just wondering what can I do and how to do it correctly. So I guess to start this off. Front and Rear bumper? Should I get pre fabbed ones or custom make one? Also should I do for sliders? Anyway that all thats on my mind for tonight until next time
This also isnt a post about whats going to happen in the new future but in 2-3 years. I am just someone who likes to think big.

from what I saw..the 1st thing I would fix are your Brakes....Then I would go through and replace "all" your ujoints(thats just me)other than that I would just go over everything else to make sure....your rig seemed pretty capable minus a few driver errors and experience....In my opinion I would just fix the weak links and continue wheeling AS IS....No disrespect but from what I saw your rig is just fine for your experience and anymore at this point will brake you financially or get you killed...Just being honest.....Fix what you have and become more comfortable with what you have.....we have all been there so dont take this wrong....

The size of the axle isn't always decided by the size of the tire. Locking hubs don't do anything for strength only mpg's.

    lockers+inexperienced driver=upside down
Sounds like you need to slow down and just get it solid. Can't recommend an axle upgrade or any other upgrade because you don't need it. If you take a Dana 60 to the trail with a weak u-joint you will have the same result. Spend some time making this truck solid or you will find yourself stranded a lot. Plus in relation to the axles, this was just gone through on your other thread, I must suggest as nicely as possible to re-read that thread, utilize google and take your time researching this. While at work, start getting the parts to make this thing reliable. You are still wasting effort while not addressing your issues. When you feel yourself wandering from the primary goal (a reliable rig) picture us putting one of those cones around your neck like they use on dogs after a surgery, maybe that will help motivate you to stay focused

^ What Rick said. Fix what needs fixing before building it up. Learn what it can do and what you can do before making changes.

So true lol I be going to be under the jeep most this week to look at all my U joints and my brakes. I have realized after this saturday of wheeling I need to work on making it reliable. Is there anything else I should look into while under the rig?

Fluids both level and condition. Maybe move your vent lines for the different and Trans up high. Lube all your zerk fittings. Check link bushings, spring bushings, and all front end parts. Also look at the lower track arm mounts on the the front axle for cracked and broken welds.

Check every bushing, replace anything with movement. I would suggest checking for any fluid leaks and addressing all those issues. Common leaks on Cherokee's are the Trans hoses and rear main. If there is greasy build up, wash it real good at car wash and then drive it about 15 minutes before looking at it. This will help isolate leaks and make them easier to see. Check that all wiring in engine compartment is properly strapped down and routed free of chance to rub on metal and creat a short. Since you just bought the truck and don't really know the history, I would recommend draining every single fluid and flushing and replacing filters. Don't forget the Trans filter in the pan and fuel filter. I would do the transfer case and diffs just to be safe. As you are draining each fluid you can use a magnet to check for large metal pieces, this should point you in the direction of potential larger issues if there are any. Check motor mounts and transmission mount. Inspect vacuum lines for nicks or breaks.

Cliff touched on motor/trans mounts and this comment will hit the big picture: Put a wrench on (do not just look at or finger wiggle) all nuts/bolts to ensure they are tight.

When I bought my wrangler, reliability was an issue (fuel delivery problems - plural). After focusing on checking/fixing to make it reliable am I working on upgrades.

I also notice something weird happening but I seem to be burning a high amount of fuel. I dont know what causing this to happen. I didn't crack my tank(At least I don't think so) Any ideas? Could I be pumping too much fuel to my engine?

I am guessing in 2wd you had to be throttle happy to make it up the trail and that will burn a lot of fuel.

You have one, it attaches to the throttle body and makes a wide arc across the engine compartment. With out one it would only idle.
