Default Labor day 2014 - Moody Hill 9/1/14

    Just start'n the thread...

So much for having photos be in order.

First the red truck flopped. Then the nice four wheel steering, Rockwell axle diesel snapped a rear driveline component. Three winches for the easy relocation for field repair (remove rear hubs and get out under front wheel drive).

We went for the trail run and stayed for the show!

I took an obscene amount of pictures and passed my camera around when I was driving so I'll post a few and if you want to check them all out you can go to the ALBUM

turned out to be a pretty good ride even though the trail has been drastically changed. 6 of us met at the trailhead at 8 and after everybody ired down etc we finally hit the trail. from the trailhead up all the way to the spur leading to the quarry it was pretty uneventful. we checked out a couple little spur trails along the way. unfortunately the trail has been significantly graded. all of the rock sections before the quarry are gone. either just covered up with dirt or possibly clompletely gone, its hard to tell. once in the quarry we played for a while. jim from fr4x4 was first in line. he made the lower climb after a few attempts and some quality spotting from me. then the white tacoma was next. the lower climb gave him a bit of trouble but again the quality spotting worked out. he decided to try the upper climb. He made this climb pretty easily for a ifs rig. then i was up next. i walked the bottom climb then attempted the upper section. i got all the way to the top pretty easily but the last few feet gave me trouble. i had the passenger front in the air a ways and then the whole front end got pretty light so i decided to back down. it was just a tad too steep for my short wheelbase. after that i think the grey tacoma was next. this one was brand new with only 13k miles on it. he had quite a bit more trouble on the lower climb but eventually made it. he opted out on the upper section and went around to the top. then the tan tacoma had his turn. he made the bottom climb with quite a bit of effort. then tried the upper section and also made it without too much trouble. about this time a group of several built yotas and a fj buggy on rocks arrived and we watched them for a while. they tried all kinds of lines, walking some and getting denied on others. also during tis time another big group of mostly stockish toyotas and a few fj's showed up. at this point most everybody was just hanging out watching the yotas play. the red toyotas flopped over on the drivers side once. after we got it winched back over and rolling then soon after the fj buggy( cummins 4bt, 44s and 4ws rockwells was playing on a ledge and snapped a rear axle shaft. got that one winched back up to flat ground where they started working on it. few other rigs played for a while. eventually a stockish fj cruiser tried the upper section and got turned a bit to where he couldn't back up any to get straightened so i winched him up out of it. he had a little carnage to the rear bumper corner/fender trim. after that i moved on and had lunch. shortly after that we moved on down the trail to the crystal mountain trailhead. we stopped there so everybody could air back up and snapped a few pics then headed back for the house. all in all was a great day on the trail. here are my pics.

Where is the open section of the road? I don't remember any. The road to Crystal Mountain is closed so we drove North to the County Road. Is this open area after the gate to
    the Mountain?
