I just recently found this site and I have to say it has been great. Within one day got a warm welcome from everyone and a new jeeping buddy. Posted that i was looking to make a run at Illinois Gulch and test my jeep out on Moab Hill and was immediately contacted by Chad AKA BuckeyeNative.
We met up at the trail head on a beautiful cool Saturday morning and hit the trail. He had the map, and he who has the map leads. Aired down, loaded up and hit the trail. We trekked along and eventually found Moab Hill and scoped it out. It looks like the hill has seen some pretty good rain lately and there was plenty of soft stuff. We both looked it over and decided to take the steps on from left to right. I went first and started along the easy line and with the help of a pretty good spotter, he guided me up without any issue. He went next and made it look even easier.
Moved a little more to the right and took on a larger ledge. Had to stack a few rocks since the soft sand just and tires didn't get along and i kept digging out. Being open dif and a little under geared gave me some fits. Left a little under carriage paint on the rocks. I had to modify my line a bit to make it up, but eventually got up. Chad took a run at it and barely spun a tire (he cheated though and locked up, LOL). I can't say I helped him much other than guiding him right into leaving a little bumper paint on a rock. Sorry
We played around a little more, Chad took on the crack and crawled right up without much problem. Note to self add lockers to future upgrade. We had lunch then took the loop back out through some great scenary. Ran into a little ran, but it didn't add much other than to control the dust.
A great day was had. Met a great wheeler and new friend, thanks Chad for running the trail with me I had a blast. The wife and kids had a blast, didn't break anything and had a lot of fun.
