    Default Moab Question

I'm heading out there the first weekend in May to meet up with some friends from TX. First, anyone who wants to tag along is welcome. It's their and my first trip. Second, reading the internet and it seems like Utah requires mudflaps and fenders that fully cover the tire. There's not really anything I can do about the fenders, but do people put mudflaps on for this trip? How much hassle am I going to get? Thanks!

Mudflaps on a Jeep? Never seen 'em. I've seen Jeeps out there with no fenders at all.

Don't worry about those kinds of things, you'll be fine Jill! Go and enjoy!

IIRC Colorado has the same laws + some about "altering the suspension" more than 2" or some foolishness.

Laws like those make me lol. Totally unreasonable to enforce and it makes me wonder how much taxpayer money was wasted to write legislation like that. I second what these guys have said, go have fun just the way your rig sits now. You will have a blast and you won't be bothered for not having flaps.

For the record, I've never seen so many speed traps or cars pulled over than I did last week between Denver and Moab. You've been warned!

So, you're saying just take the scenic 2-lane and stay away from I-70...

All the way to Moab? No way, I like to get there fast and the speed limit is mostly 70-75 which is good for me. Just set the cruise control at 5 over and smile as you blow through the radar.

Thanks, I still need to tune for these tires so I'll take care of that before I go.

And thanks everyone else, I'm writing mudflaps off my list of things to worry about.

Jill - you should write everything off your "list of things to worry about"! Just have fun! Bring good maps, trail books and lots of water. You are going to have the time of your life!

The only time I've really heard people getting pulled over for that stuff in Moab is during EJS.

I rode all over Moab in my Toyota without a bed and passed cops a couple times a day without them batting an eye or seeming to care at all (I think they are used to seeing beat up toyota's :P)

    haha...silly pic

Or just use the GPS speed readout until tires/speedo are corrected.

I'm really getting excited and we've been going back and forth on trails to try. They are going to do the harder stuff on Thursday since he's locked and I'm not, but what do people like that's moderate?

Jill - My Jeep has lockers, but I did not use them on Fins-n-Things. No need. That trail is a MUST! Moderate by most people's standards probably - but the best intro to Moab you can get in my opinion! It's simply amazing!

Since we're not answering your question I'll give a couple more: Fins & Things, Chicken Corner, Gemini Bridges, Dome Plateau, Hells Revenge, Longs Canyon, Top of the World.

They're all easy to moderate depending on what you want to do and whether you'll be running alone or with someone.

Fins & Things is on my list, top of my list actually. I've looked at Dome Plateau, Top of the World and Kane Creek too but wasn't sure so thanks for the confirmation. What about Elephant Hill inside Canyonlands, has anyone done that one? I'd like to take the kids into Arches also, and heard there's an easy trail inside the park but we might just hike there and get out of the Jeep for a bit. I also looked at 7 Mile Rim and that looked like I could do it. I looked at Chicken Corner and it looks beautiful, but I'm not sure that it's enough for the other guys. Hells Revenge has been on and off my list, I just can't decide if it's too much. We're only wheeling 2 days, so that should be enough to fill them up even without Hells Revenge.

Oh, and Max...we're staying at the KOA if you want in on this trip.
