One that works. Haha. Seriously though, Appliance Factory Outlet. Had good luck with them.

My neighbor just got miserable luck with Appliance Factory Outlet. There's a place in Denver by Broadway and Hampden that sells refurbished appliances that I just heard about as being good. It's a long drive for you Tom but I can get the name if you want.

Our machine might be on the way out too. It stinks - (as in "smells like poop"). Seriously - I googled it and found that I am not the only one having trouble with this machine. It washes the clothes just fine, but if we go a day or two without doing a load of laundry, it starts to stink. And it just so happens that our machine is in a closet right outside a bathroom door, so it makes for fun finger-pointing-remarks after someone has just come out of the bathroom!

Woohoo I figured out the problem. Someone spilled detergent into the lid switch. Its all gummed up. Tried cleaning it this morning and have it at least partially working. Worst case scenario at $5 part.

Actually its 30 bucks what a rip off

I have heard a lot of issues with front load washers stinking. It is caused by the sealed door and no way for water to evaporate away in between loads leading to mildew issues. I have heard you can add something to help but don't recall what. I just avoided a front load washer when we got ours. Surprised me but Lowes had a better deal than Appliance Factory Outlet.(5 years ago) The door switch is just a safety to prevent machine from running when door is open and could be bypassed fairly easily but sounds like you may be able to get it cleaned out.

Not sure if he still does stuff, but I found our current washer and dryer from this guy via Craig's List: roderick.davis@gmail.com. He refurbishes them as a side gig. He's super cool, and years later when something went wrong with the dryer, he came out and fixed it, and only charged us for the part, and a small fee for his time. The last time I talked with him I think was a year or so ago, and he was still in the business.

(ETA: When I got our washer & dryer, Chris was in Iraq and I was kind of having a conniption because I was hosting a big event the day my washer died and was in the middle of washing clothes that I needed stat. The washer and dryer were CHEAP, I got them the same morning, and still work to this day.)

Mine is a top-load washer so a different issue. I tore into it last night and this morning and cleaned it till it looks like new. It really didn't look very dirty, but I cleaned it anyway... (I also found the "magic button" that says "Clean Machine"! WHO KNEW???! Now it doesn't stink! I'm hoping I solved the problem.

    Glad you figured it out.

I go into the Habitat for Humanity thrift stores on occasion and actually bought a washer there once. They had some pretty nice ones actually, and they are very reasonably priced too. Plus, you can count as a tax deduction too I think.

Funny. Mine died the day before we left for Moab. I get to figure it out and fix it tomorrow. Pretty sure it's just the coupler again.

For the DIYer's out there Jenson appliance on Kipling just south of 44th has a lot of common parts in stock and are very helpful. I think the piece I needed last time was $15 and a couple hours of my time.
