    Default Rant

I am sitting here aggravated because there is a general part of the wheeling community that just makes me sick. I am talking about the people that there entire lives are bashing other peoples builds and etc. because it maybe different or could have been done better. Instead of giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism there "people" ill use the term loosely have to feed I am better than everyone mentality. It is a sickness in the 4 wheeling community and i wish there was a way to stop it. Just drives me nuts. Example: Justin Harris *some of you know him* is doing a ZJ build but instead of a 4-link rear he went leaves. HOLY sweet mother of god you would think he killed a child or something. Instead of constructive criticism all he gets is JUNK, ITS JUST CRAP IT'LL NEVER FLEX. Then shows pictures of it flexing and its just more bashing. I mean this isn't the only time i have seen this happen but it drives me up a wall. I mean there is only a small part of the wheeling community *cough, frontrange, cough* where i really haven't seen this yes there has been drama time to time but nothing of this sort. I don't know just people bashing other peoples rigs instead of yeah that's cool or just keeping their mouths shut. Makes me hook a strap to their "perfect" rig and drag them around the block. I don't know just figured id vent. Thank god frontrange does not do this.

I agree with you! Going around looking at other offroad site you see a lot of that stuff, lot of hostility for no real reason. That's why FR4x4 is so great no one here is like that. I feel like people who are new to this like I am may be discouraged from offroading seeing how some people get so mean and vile towards each other. It's a real shame but I guess there is only so much you can do about it. You have to find the good clubs and groups like FrontRange.

The real solution is not to go to those forums. It saves a lot of aggravation!

I have to say it's not limited to 4x4 forums though, it's now a characteristic of the web as a whole, people spouting off knowing nobody knows who they are. Keyboard courage, keyboard assh*les.

I love this site nothing but honest help, The people here don't judge but will tell you if your ideas are bad ones. It was funny when I called the guys and Indy 4x with some questions and we were chatting I brought up that read stuff on some other sites (that I don't waste my time posting on but will browse from time to time) and as soon as I said there names he had the same opinions I had, a bunch of jacka$$es.

I even get it on campus some times. If wheeling comes up I am quick to talk up my Trooper and many people are quick to tell me that its a worthless rig (mainly because they have never even heard of Isuzu) and I should sell it for something else but once I show them my vids they shut up pretty quick .

Iv never been into "cookie cutter rigs"
I like rigs that paint outside the lines
You go to any offroad show and see folks, Nice Jeep, Nice Jeep, Nice Jeep.
I wana be the rig that folks stop and say "what the heck and Why"

I'd fit into that category. I built the wife a wheeler out of a Chevy S-10. It was a platform that most deemed unworthy of aftermarket support. Even the big magazines kinda make fun of 'em. Not many forums like ours anywhere else. I'm with you on this one. Most don't have a clue what they're doing, so they talk crap to make themselves feel a bit more knowledgeable. Tell him not to take to heart what people say. After all, it's his rig, he can build it however he wants to. I personally know of a few leaf sprung rigs that can flex like mad.

The other thing that I see on other forums that grinds my gears is when they tell you to search for a thread that was already posted but don't help to find said thread. Half the time the thread is 5 years old and outdated. I personally search for stuff before posting a question meaning I have already seen the thread and still need more clarification.

Agreed. I've got tons of pix of our (former) YJ, that was spring-over, on all four corners, flexing it's way through Indy and Patriot. Matt (good friend of Justin) was there. Variety is the spice of life. Anyone (well, a lot of people, anyway...) can build a cookie-cutter rig. Plus...isn't it more the skill of the driver than the way it's built, to a significant extent?

Not much gets under my skin. I have been irritated by Vendors who had moderator permissions...or is it moderators with something to sell???

The worst case was a guy on COjeeps. He would hawk his wares in build threads and act like they were the best thing since sliced bread. If you tried to compare oranges to lemons and grapefruit, he would go off: No discussion of mechanics, physics, geometry, or metalurgy. No discussion of the trade-offs between different systems, just "BUY MY STUFF!"

He finally lost his moderator permissions after getting called out for his behavior. He got caught deleting posts that contradicted his. I guess he had the forum confused with his facebook account.

No, it was not. You offer solutions, options, and discuss trade-offs between systems.
