Default Aussie Run - Radical/Deer Creek & Saints John

Well, it was an awesome day! Weather was great and everyone had a good time, except Al! He lost his tranny most of the way home. Mike towed him back to Keystone. They had a friend bring up the tow bar and got him home with that. I just talked to him and they had dropped off the Jeep and were mostly home. Hopefully the whole tranny's not toast, let us know what happened! I'm having issues uploading pix so I'll try tomorrow! HUGE thanks go out to Dave, Dave, Kim, Rob, Chris, Dirk, Jonathan, Tom, Al, Mike, Gary, Cliff, and Cliff's brother for taking the Aussies and a few Yanks up in the hills, they loved it! I'll get an email out to all the drivers tomorrow with a group pic or two at the top!

We had a great time yesterday. Wasn't sure if I was going to make the run. Truck was overheating on the way up and then started blowing a ton of smoke out. Pulled over and found rear main dripping pretty bad on the exhaust. Was going to pull over at next town but once we got off the steep uphill climb engine temp dropped to normal and it didn't smoke at all the last 25 minutes to Keystone. Checked oil upon arrival and found it wasn't even low and checked rear main and no more drip. Made sure we had oil and hit the hills. Was pretty neat talking with the couple from Australia all day. Near the top of Radical Hill a motorcycle lost it's clutch and another member of our group pulled him the last bit to the top. At the top we stopped for lunch and then started making our way back down Saints John. We had another motorcycle run into some issues, no rear brake fluid. We stopped and got him some brake fluid to get him back on his way. We had partially cloudy skies keeping it nice and cool all day. Thanks Kyle for pulling this together, I am glad I was able to be a part of it.

Thanks for setting this up Kyle. I hope to be able to come again next year. Instead of uploading photos here, I put a few in an online album...

I'm really sad that I missed this one - I'd like to do it next year for sure!

Don't take this the wrong way (I never wish break-downs or other issues on anyone) but it might be a good thing that there were some "problems" that needed to be resolved for a fellow off-roader (be it a member of the group, a 4-wheeler, a two wheeler or whatever) to get them safely back on the road. It resonates good karma, and most certainly showed the visiting guests some great Colorado hospitality. No one gets left behind... Everybody goes home safe, (and hopefully their vehicle does too in the same day).

Kudos to all who attended and showed the exchange families a great time!

Sounds like everyone had a great time. Wish I could have been there, but maybe next year. Still have a few more things to get done around the house before I can go out and "play" again.

We had a great time, both Radical Hill and Saint Johns were new trails for me, one really nice tippy spot on Radical hill provided the pucker factor for the day. My passenger Lindsay from Brisbane had a ball too and was constantly amazed by what we could climb/go-over with our vehicles.

Even got to see some wildlfe.

    American Pika

Mountain Chipmunk asking us for food

    Momma and Baby goat

    Lindsay and Gary

    And wildest life out there...Rob

He seemed pretty surprised to find over a dozen rigs parked at the top of Radical Hill!

I did not end-up doing Radical Hill. We had enough passengers that weren't interested in a "intense" trail, so four of the rigs took Deer Creek Trail and met them atop Radical Hill.

I'd like to run Red Cone though...

And that spot the arrow's pointing to has a washout on the edge of the trail that you have to go over.
