Welder worked pretty good, I think I might pick one up when I do design #2 for the sliders. Should have them painted and installed by tuesday night.

Nice work Shane!! Since you've welded for a living and for fun, and have used the HF 90 for a project, I'd really like to know your impressions of it?

I would say that for what it costs and the materials I was impressed. It functioned without any problems once you had it dialed in for what you are welding. I see it being useful for around the house projects as for fabing some stuff I would probably only use it for sliders. I would not use it for bumpers, winch mount or things of that nature. Anything that requires good penetration or heat control like body panels I would go with a mig and gas setup. Everything I welded up was 11g, well see how they hold this Saturday. I would spend the money on one but will probably save my nickles and dimes for a mig with gas set up only because I want to use it for replacing some sections of body panels on the 57 as well. I would like to how much difference there would be with a different manufacter of wire such as Lincoln, Not an expert just my opinion but worth picking up.

And the last pics are were they are mounted to the frame with some self tappers. I still need to install 10 more self tappers but do not have a 90 degree drill. I was supposed to borrow my brother inlaws but he can't find it.

I'd personally recommend using something heavy than just self tappers. Self tappers have a tendency to be rather weak and snap off right at the head under pressure. Perhaps through bolts with a fish plate? Just my .02

Thanks for the input, I am just using the self tappers till after this saturdays run. Want to see how they are gonna hold up. All ready thinking about a possible redesign so that is why they are not going to perminate yet. If they hold up then I will probably just weld them up on sunday. I am sure rick would like his welder back.

how about reaming the bolt holes out, welding in some tube for pinch, and through bolt then? 3/8" I.D. tubing is available at ace hardware. dont even have to weld it, just cut to size and leave it in there.

Sleeve it so you can't/don't crush the unibody, correct????

yeah pops! my words get away from me sometimes. this would provide the through bolt strength, without pinching the unibody.

I thought about doing a sleeve inside the frame in the original design but changed it. I think that I when I build the second set I will have a better idea of how I want them to end up I used 2x2 from the sliders to the frame if they end up hitting or hanging up I will change it to 1x3 tubing. Just kinda seeing on what I can do to improve them after a run to produce a better final project. I also want to add some round tube to the next set with a slight upward angle to also use for a step.
