    Default Yellowstone?

We'll be spending a week there next month, anyone have any specific places that are must see?

We're taking the popup, we should have planned this much earlier but managed to find a spot anyway. After Yellowstone we're heading to the Black Hills/Badlands NP area then to visit some friends in IL for some boating on the Mississippi. Looking forward to this road trip!

I would reccomend a couple days in Jackson Hole, WY along the snake river on your way to yellow stone. It is a awesome place and so much to see.

I would offer suggestions, but this is what I have done when I have gone to Yellowstone. I don't think it is quite what you had in mind:

Yellowstone if you go through Cody,WY is about a 10 hour drive from Denver. I spent a year living in Sunlight Basin, WY. Sunlight Basin is between Cody and Gardiner. I wasn't kidding about the bar in Gardiner.

If you go don't miss any of the geyser basins. Old Faithful IMO is a big let down. Yellowstone falls is also well worth the time though I've never hiked to the bottom I wish I had. Lamar valley has lots of wildlife. Its where the put the bad bear. I did a 3 day horse pack trip once up the Lamar Valley and back into Sunlight Basin. Definitely go through the Grand Tetons either on the way or way back.

I drove through again last fall on my way back from Glacier. Mammoth hot springs is in a low eb and IMO not worth the extra mileage at this time. Mammoth in the late 70 early 80s had lots of water. Currently there is very little flow.

Since you're already so close.... go over to see the Grand Tetons. An absolute must-sight-to-see!

One time we were doing that trip, we were in a tiny little white rental car following my in-laws in their car. We had to stop because of bison that wandered into the road. Britton decided to be a smart-a$$, rolled down his window and yelled "Yo momma was a cow"!

Well, that pissed them off big-time and the next thing we knew we were completely surrounded by these huge beasts yelling at us, licking the windows and apparently calling in more "troops"!!!

Britton was rolling up his window as fast as he could saying "I was just kidding, I was just kidding". It was so funny and so scary at the sme time. Those guys are HUGE!!!

    The Tetons are beautiful.

By all means, see the Tetons. Those are "real" mountains and differ quite a lot from what we have here in Colorado. I have spent a lot of time in the Tetons, climbing the Grand, Middle and Mt Moran by many different routes, both rock and ice. Spectacular place!

Best avoid the Black Hills Aug 2-14, unless of course you're into motorcycles, and lots of them.

Yeah, pretty good group in general. My old next door neighbor and his clan were hard core bikers. As a group kind of jerks but as individuals good people. I don't know if you ever went to the Iron Horse in Mpls when you lived there Jackie, it was in my neighborhood north of the city. The story I like was when talking to our neighbors friends and they mentioned where they lived (a couple doors down from the Iron Horse) my neighbors said "Aren't you scared to walk there at night?" the woman's reply was "who's scared of a bunch of balding, overweight middle-aged guys?"

We were at a gas station filling up when a group of bikers pulled in. I asked one guy if I could get a picture of him and my little girl on the back of his bike. He was flattered and agreed. (My husband stood there mortified that I had made such a request!!!)

I have a printed copy of the picture, but this was almost 20 years ago, so I can't find a digital copy to share.

They were all really cool people IMHO.

I make the annual pilgramage to Sturgis every year. Been going since 1993. Have a lot of friends from around the country who meet there for some fun.
