    Default Ballard Road

Just got home and will post pics tomorrow. I did most of Ballard may have missed a short spur or two. When I went up Buckhorn there was a puff of smoke on the ridge to the North. While I was wheeling the fire blew up and turned massive. When I got down to 44h the entire canyon was closed so I had to evacuate. Didn't get to West White Pine Mtn, or Moody because of the fire. Had loads of fun though on Ballard. OBTW Trail Damage info on Ballard kind of sucks. More later.

Not too surprised about the fire or the fact that it really blew up. It is really dry and this is probably only the start to a lot of other fires that are coming. It is about as dry now as it was just before the Hayman Fire in 2002. If you get a chance, update our own FR trail information on Ballard Road. a lot of people use both that and the traildamage information as reference.

I was a bit too close to that one for comfort:

We got a chance to get out a bit late (after lunch) yesterday and considered heading up towards Ballard Road (from Loveland). We saw the smoke from the fire expanding rapidly so we decided to do Pole Hill Road instead- we figured everything beyond Masonville would be closed. The plume was massive- even from Loveland and Pole Hill.

Everything west of Masonville was closed. I got in before they closed it.

Nice work Tom, the photos of the helicopter give a great perspective of the size of the fire.
