Default Pole Hill with Pierson Park & Rock Creek tossed in

    Just start'n the thread.

Tom, Rob and I met at the Pole Hill trailhead at 9:30am today. Weather was on/off drizzly to light rain with low clouds. About 1/2 way through Pole Hill we started seeing snow, sometimes a good snowfall at times. Ground was starting to turn white in spots.

Rob then stirred the pot and said, you know Pierson Park is close... and then when we got off of that there was a Rock Creek is just up the road...

Overall, a nice day to be out. Overcast / rainy / snowy 98% of the day. Back down to Lyons - what's this blue sky?!

Now to download GPS info and start processing photos...

194 photos and 16 vid's to process - and I'm worn out from the ride today. Likely tomorrow aft before they get posted

Fun day, guys. Thanks for helping me almost conquer Rock Creek.

After smooth sailing on Pole Hill and Pierson Park, I figured Rock Creek would be easy. But snow drifts started about halfway up the trail. Got through a couple of them, then came up against a pine across the trail. With bow saws, an ax and a winch, got the tree off the side of the trail, in three pieces. Then we had to dig out some of the deep snow drift that was under the tree. Finally got through, only to find more deep drifts, cover half the trail. By this time, it was 5 p.m. and time to turn around and head home. I figure we got a little over two miles up the trail that, according to TD, is about 3.5 miles long.

On the bright side, we made it much farther than the last time and even a bit farther than the snow run last year.

As Jim mentioned, it was rainy and snowy. And, of course, it snowed the entire time we were moving that tree.

It was interesting to note that the tree we dragged halfway off the trail on Pole Hill late last year is still halfway across the trail. Those who were on that run likely will remember it fondly.

    Some pics from Pole Hill.

The tree across the trail on Rock Creek, with the top lopped off and moved and Tom taking a break from sawing through the second section. If Tom and Jim hadn't both had bow saws, we likely would have turned back.

Only to find this. We busted through this series of drifts, but it just got worse. I vow to get to the end of this trail before this year is out.

Nice reports and pic's guy's and thanks Rob( for the pic's)! Great job on the tree mitigation! 'And, of course, it snowed the entire time we moved that tree.' sounds like my luck . I have not been on these trails yet, can't wait to run them. Looking forward to the rest of the coming pic's and report!! Looks like taking a chainsaw is in order.

It was a rather "Eleventh Hour" posting...

I'm surprised Rob even caught it to join in.
